What I mean is the success of the gto2 is more a product of serendipity (or stupidity by ATI for not locking the pipes). ATI didn't market the gto2 on the basis of its overclockability.
That is true I suppose, and if the question is simply "why does ATI market their cards more expensively than nVidia" then I will have to remove the GTO^2 from my example, but regardless of the marketing department, someone at ATI made this card available. In the same theme, can't we then call the 6600gt (which prior to the GTO^2 I considered to be the most impressive card of the last gen when adjusted for price) something of a matter of serendipity or stupidity as well? I don't think nVidia really planned for people to reccomend the 6600gt over the 6800 vanilla even without factoring in price.
