Why are Anandtech forums users so rude?

Near every post is met with a flame, nef, flame, sarcasm, flame, seemingly indifferent yet degrading remark, or flame, disregarding what the poster may have said. What purpose does this serve?

You have opinions? Excellent, yet there are ways of saying things which wil permit your audience to listen.

Because a lot of time those who result to insult:

a) Have no real credible arguement.

b) Can't tell the difference between an insult and a joke.

c) Think that because something is popular its not wrong or derrogatory.

d) Are bigots.

Think that about sums it up.

Yup, of course those you are trying to reach won't listen. Such is ATOT. 🙁

You could sum it up by just saying they are idiots who have to make up for their lack of manhood. 😉

ah, you forgot:

e) the original poster makes an "uninformed comment"

Yup. It bothers me at times since I know 90% of these people would nt act like this in "real life".

I try to act the same way online as I do/would offline. I've met a bunch of good people here on Anandtech that I label as friends offline.

Ah, so by your superiority, you must insult them rather than correct them?

No, we just "politely" point out their mistake and give them the ol' college charm 😉. That's what gentlemen do in these parts of the web 😉.

Sometimes, though, some of the comments are soo assheaded that it'd be a shame if no one took the advantage (BTW, I'm not a repost-nazi or anything silly like that - I'm more into the subtle art of being a smartass within the post's context 😀 )

heh i once saw a page listing types of forum posters with nutty picture/cartoons of each disfunctional type. very funny, maybe one of u have the new addy.

I used to have the link, but it got lost.

I don't know if I agree with you. I have been browsing these forums for a long time and have only recently started contributing. I don't feel like the people have been that rude here. There are a few who seem to think the keyboard is the best way to get their frustration out, but most are kind and helpful. Lately with the war effort in Iraq, there has been some more heated discussions, but I would say that is the exception.

I found it!!! 🙂
