here is my theory on this topic:

in any cartoon related movie or show, there are many many dedicated artists. Lets say they work on anime for years, and during that time they begin to develop relationships with these characters, i mean, since they do draw these people day in and day out, they feel these characters are more than real for them since they draw them and give them life. So of course the human mind (which is perverted) begins to experiment with thier drawings and their own arousal takes over so they fantasize on their characters thus drawing them either naked or something.

take the chick from FINAL FANTASY the movie. I've seen one rendered photo of her in a bikini, then someone (not saying any names: glen!) sent me the exact same pic but without clothes. Its obvious that the creators who worked with this cute girl worked on it for months! and so they go the extra step just because they "made" their own characters and gave them life...

edit: same goes with the Disney artists. They;ve worked their entire lives with characters and so that attachment has allowed them to give their characters complete life and so they draw them naked to see how would look. But disney goes an extra step, they are just sick...at least some were

thats my thought on it

Cultural thing. Sex is taboo in the US. The fact that it's okay to read hentai in public in Japan proves that sex is simply accepted as something which exists instead of being systematically denied.

And indeed, more than 80% of all anime has nothing to do with sex.
