Why am I so determined to succeed in my own company?

So as you all know, I've been working on my own business (Text) while I've been also searching for new work. Today, I got an offer for this place in New York (i'd have to move back to jersey) -- $XX,XXX sign on bonus and a really good salary.

I want to accept it, but I can't just bring myself to do it. In this field, I have to work 10 hour+ days (as many of you do), and I just enjoy doing those 10+ hour days for myself, instead of someone else.

My gut is to just head back to the East Coast, plop myself down, and just keep working on growing my own company for 6 months - and if that fails, it fails, and then try something else.

if he went with his gut, how would we ever to be able to enjoy his multitude of threads asking us to make every decision of his life?

Give me one example of when this has happened in the last 6 - 12 months.

I'll be waiting.

We don't have to. You've given us plenty of fuel already. What are you implying? That you're a changed man?

East coast? I thought you moved to Boston.

Anyway, how old are you? You're probably young enough that you can make some mistakes in life and still come out okay.

Is it possible to start developing your company on the side of your occupation?

Yes, that's what I was doing before.

I would never work 10 hour days unless I could do it and only work 4 days a week and have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off each week.

Nothing personal man, but perhaps you should try getting a better job yourself so you can stop posting threads about how much your job sucks.

Pontifex does not make anywhere near as many whiny job threads. Do an author search for him and see how few that really are out there.

Look how many venting threads exist in general around here. =p

As far as companies go, innovation is the key, otherwise you never really hit it big. The idea sounds a lot like Rackspace. I <3 Rackspace, but it's a specialty market.

Except for the fact that 4-5 of our customers came from Rackspace. Citing "horrible service" and a "robotic NOC", they prefer to work with people who actually know what they're doing.

You can find another job later. If you don't try your company now, when will you?

Yeah dude. unless the first 'X' in $XX,XXX starts with a '5', keep at it. You'll find someone else to hire you in the future. Keep driving for a few more months. Or are you getting homesick maybe? IDK. I'd trade places with you right now. I wish I had the balls to set out on my own and drive to random places and meet weirdos. That'd be sweet.

I do think you have a bit of the "grass is greener" syndrome though, as each of your posts in your nationwide drive thread start something like "dude XXX place is the coolest place I've seen yet." I think if you continue on your journey you'll find a place where the grass is suitably green and then you'll have your answer. Either way, good luck man.
