Why am I always tired in the morning

For all aspects of my daily routine, everything is normal (at least I think).

Every weekday morning I get up 8:15 and feel tired like I could sleep another 3 hours at least. At work (office job) I usually feel the most awake from 10am to 1pm, could use a nap from 1pm to 3pm (but dont), then feel great 3pm to the time I go home (5-6pm). Once home I feel wide awake until at least midnight when I force myself to go to bed. But usually I just end up laying in bed wide awake until 1 - 2am and then start the next day super tired again.

On the weekends I usually succumb to sleeping in until I feel rested, which is usually around 10:30 - 11am then go to bed only when Im tired around 2am.

I lead a active life, work out, play sports, eat healthy; am I just a "night person" or is there a way to adjust my body's clock?

Sounds like you don't get enough sleep on weeknights (2am-8am).

A way to fix your clock is to force yourself going to sleep, say, by 10 pm. First couple weeks you'll be laying in bed for a while, but then you will start falling asleep at 10.

Also, turn off computer/TV an hour before bed. Light saturates your eyes and your brain does not want to sleep. Read a book or something in this hour.

Here is what helped me:

1. Turn off computer/TV 1 full hour before bed (read or clean or prep for the next day)
2. Stop eating 3 hours before bed
3. Cut out non-healthy foods (sugar, processed food, etc.)
4. Exercise at least 10 minutes a day
5. Go to bed early every night for 2 weeks, turn the lights off, and stay in bed

Going to bed early was probably the hardest part of my lifestyle change last month. It is incredibly boring to lay there in the dark for hours on end, not being able to fall asleep. The good news is that after a week or two your body will start adjusting, so if you can make it through the "rite of passage" period then you're all set. I also switched my meals from 3 meals to 6 meals a day and that really helped. I started waking up at 4-5am and had consistent energy throughout the day. It takes time though and it's REALLY hard to do initially.
