The only people i would consider radical are people who cannot contain their opinions and make it their duty to violently impose things on people with force. This can be anti-establishment people throwing flaming bottles at animal testing facilities, people starting riots at g8 summits, and people who beat up and abuse abortion doctors and clinics.

extremist is a word i sometimes use to describe people obviously outside the average/norm.
This has negative attributes, but can be positive when large reforms are needed and there are large amounts of uninformed masses.

Left and Right are well defined...that's pretty obvious.

How can supporting gay marriage be "radical"? Radical gays (the small number of them left) would say marriage is a disgusting, heterosexist institution and that gays should have nothing to do with it. Also, if around a third of US citizens support gay marriage, and another third support civil unions, then support for same-sex marriage cannot REASONABLY be characterized as a "Radical" position. To be sure, support for gay marriage is not the majority position, but it definitely is not a radical position when it is supported by a third of people.

What does the term mean?

Why, for that matter, is conjur a radical leftist? Conjur is strongly anti-war and anti-Bush, however overall his positions are quite moderate, it seems to me. He has moderate views on abortion, for example. I haven't seem him calling for huge increases in social welfare, either.

Perhaps anyone who dislikes Bush is a radical or extremist?

Gay Marriage in Canada is supported by ~50%

I was against thew war, it's obvious the evidence didn't support going to war, I resent the lies made by Bush/ Blair/ my prime minister. Now that the invasion has taken place, I'm not so sure what the best thing to do would be.

 
People think Canada is radically left, even fiscally...but as shown in the Europe thread...we are very much on par with the US.

Ofcourse someone who dislikes Bush isn't automatically an extremist - however extremist on the left do seem to have an extreme dislike of Bush - hence their constant whining about Bush, PNAC, and/or Republicans.
The veracity of their whining is what pushes them further and further to the extreme. For someone to simply disagree with Bush and/or his policies is one thing but to constantly blame him or the right for problems is a tad extremist. Just as with the extremists on the Right that blamed everything bad in the world on Clinton when he was President. I was not one of those who blamed Clinton for everything - however there were and are many things that I disagree(d) with. I also think there are many things that he should not be credited/blamed for too.

Take a look at the PNAC thread for examples of radical leftists. Take a look in the Impeachment thread if you need more examples. Examples abound in this place, it's DU-lite.
