Why a personal trainer is making himself obese…on purpose

Wow, he lost 70 pounds! And all it took was 6 months of 8 hour days working out! Well, that along with a strict diet controlled by a professional nutritionist. Oh, and professional trainers to assist in that all day workout. It might have helped that he is a self-proclaimed workout junkie.

So, overall, count me unconvinced that this is applicable to my life.

I've lost 46pounds (3 stone 4) in the last 2.6 months. It's not hard.

I can't gain weight no matter how hard I try. You know those food packages that says serves 3? I eat it by myself. Burritos from Mexican places? My co-workers take 30 minutes to eat half, I take 5 minutes to eat the whole thing. I think I'm actually getting skinner. I'm down to a 28 waist right now. Sigh...

How old are you? I was in your shoes once upon a time, to an extent I still am as I can eat 2x more than most people and not put on weight. But I use to eat 5-6k calories a day and was about as inactive as you can get. And I couldn't break 165 if my life depended on it. After about 15 years of that I started to put on weight, but I still had to power a lot more food than the average person. If you're younger, it'll probably change.

I've been around fat people all my life. Only stock up on junk foods. Maybe a rare occasional healthy something once or twice a month. But generally only if it's in relation to making a desert.
I know how to eat healthy & get in shape. But I need to be out & on my own to have complete control over my own diet. If there's no junk food around to consume, I can't have any. Easy enough to not buy any while out shopping.
I've only had 1 month of being in the place of eating good & working out, physically & mentally, I never felt better. But it was a fucking tease. Was getting paid well & able to afford my own shit for once. It took about a week for the negative effects on my body from junk food to be out of my system. But by the end of that month I was eating well, lost some of my waist size & was working out 45min nearly every day. Wasn't as tired as usual. But then I got fired & everything unraveled in that aspect soon after...

It is disgusting & revolting when people can have complete control over this aspect of their life & outright choose not to better themselves. I envy those with that opportunity & don't take full advantage of it.

Edit: Damn, I didn't notice how old this thread was. The link doesn't work. Is there anywhere else I can read about his progress?
He posted his weight gain and a couple of months of his loss but quite showing his progress about 3/4 months ago, IIRC, wanting the big splash when he did show himself.

A progress bar on this page. It shows week by week measurements.

I spent a lot of time in the theater - entertainment business, where bulking up to fit a role is commonplace. So is extreme dieting and exercise to stay thin. Personally I think what he's doing is tasteless and offensive. Some people can do this easily. I have a feeling he's going to get to his goal and just make fun of normal people. What a waste of time.

He's most likely doing this as a gimmick to promote his website/services.

All this kind of stuff is nothing more than a way to sell a book and make money off it. Nothing else.

I also want to point that it's much easier for a trained individual to go from fit to fat back to fit than the average person who has never exercised before.

He works as a personal trainer as a side job. His normal job is monitoring spinal cords during back surgery. Pretty sure he mentions he only works out 45 minutes a day.

Probably a fattie.
Insert roll eyes emoticon.

This guy says he stole my idea.

Yeah man, you're absolutely right. Keeping fit is too hard. We should all just hook up soda IV drips and live on Twinkies. Because its too hard.

Hah. Funny thing is that he probably didn't have to much at all. Low calorie diet + intense 45 minute workout daily. That's all you need. People have an unrealistic idea of the work needed to acquire a given look.

Even at his biggest, looks like he had a decent base of muscle. Looked like he was still lifting. But, yes, 45 min/day for the average Joe.

I'm not working.

Are you still in school?

Here in America, a huge problem is people chain themselves to ridiculously long commutes. They don't have the time or energy to work out after sitting in a car for an hour. Add to that kids, and they just grow and grow until they're whales.

That's why I'm planning to work for universities and live within easy biking distance of work for as long as possible. My current bike commute is ~10 minutes, and my gym is ~4 minutes away by bike.

Yeah I'm at uni at the moment.

While exercising is definitely an important part of my weight loss, it's not the main part of it. I eat about 1,800 - 2,000 calories a day at the mo, and have been since 18th of March at which time I was 281 pounds, I'm now 237 pounds, I go to the gym about 3 times a week, the main focus for me is the food, I just eat healthy stuff and I stick to the calories I'm eating, I eat at the same time every day and thats it!

There's definitely a problem if you're commuting as much as a lot of americans must be in terms of going to the gym, but the diet is the main bit, so I'd just focus on that. I'd still be losing weight if I wasn't going to the gym, but slightly slower.
