Why 4 different kinds of eVGA 7800GT.

They each have slightly different specs.

515: reference cooler, 445/1070mhz
516: GTX copper cooler, 460/1100mhz (some of these are stock clocked at 470/1100 for some reason; both of mine were)
517: GTX copper cooler, 470/1100mhz
518: reference cooler, 445/1070mhz, EVGA SLI motherboard

The 516 and 518 are great choices. The other two aren't worth it in comparison.

I had never even checked the specs for each card, I just assumed each card had a different bundle with it. Thx for the heads up CP, as I am going to buy one of these EVGA cards in a month or so unless some other vendor drastically reduces their prices. With newer NV cards about a month away, I hope the price drops another $40 or so.

Yeah my 516 was stock clocked at 470/1100mhz too, I paid about $20 less for the 517 essentially.

When you mean GTX copper cooler. You mean it has the same heat sink as the GTX card?

And if the 516 is better than the 515, why is the 516 cheaper? And its possible to get the 516 up to 517 specs right? Being that they are the same card, just different factory overclocks?

I just got the N515 because I don't overclock (much) and it was the cheapest after the rebate, but that was back then. It runs cooler than my GF6800 even without a copper heatsink.

From what I can tell, it's the same heatsink and fan that's on the GTX, but made of copper instead of aluminum. Aside from cooling better, the GTX fan is also supposed to be quieter than the smaller GT fans on the reference cards.

As for why it costs less, who knows. :p Seems like just one of those pricing quirks. You can easily get the 516 to the 517 speeds (the difference is tiny), if it doesn't already come with 517 speeds out of the box. I'm not sure why EVGA even has two different cards that are so similar. :confused:

only evga models ending in AX and GX are eligble for the lifetime warranty. go to the evga website and read the FAQs, its in there. that could be part of it.

They all have the AX in their part numbers. Some resellers just forget to show that on their websites.

You can see all the actual product codes on EVGA's website. All their 7800GTs have the AX.

yea pretty much. I have heard a BIOS flash is needed to be able to up it to the normal CO speeds without artifacting. Thats just what I have heard, and Im sure it can be done pretty easy

oh but the problem is I have yet to find an 516 with the AX at the end.

Which means no lifetime warrenty, probably because it can easily be overclocked to the 517-AX speeds.

That's nonsense. It's 10mhz; any card could overclock that much without artifacting.

The CO SE (516) is definitely the best buy.
