Hi,
Does anyone know why WMP wont play *.avi files propely?
It`ll look for a codec, download it, then just play the sound, where as Quicktime does the same, but only plays the video.
Its annoying trying to run both at once to use the file.
Does WMP9 play *.avi files? if so then i`ll download it.

Thanks in advance

Hop over to Digital Digest and d/l all the codecs you want :)
Oh and I recommend you watch any movies in Media Player 6.4 (program files\windows media player\mplayer (not WMP)), that plays back basically everything.
Anyway you should d/l the Tsunami filter pack, DivX5 and the new XviD, after that (make sure to install the Radium MP3 playback in the filter pack) you should be able to playback everything :)

Ive downloaded WMP9, and it still doesnt play *.avi files, Ive also tryed the MediaPlayer2 applicaion, and that dont work either.
Why do i need DivX codecs for a *.avi file anyway? Can anyone point me to a *.avi codec that i can download for WMP9?

You won't be able to play an avi file if you don't have the specific codec for that avi file of which is was encoded in, the packs I've mentioned usually plays back everything with the correct codec. If you don't get them, you simply won't watch them, your choice, and you can't d/l the codecs for WMP9 as it's to do with the codecs I've mentioned, go figure.

So what do i have to do then?
What software do i need to play *.avi files?
And/Or what codecs and where can i get them from.

Is it possible to download the codecs for either WMP, Quicktime or RealOne Player, as i use these alot, and i cant be arsed setting the file associations again with another program. Preferably a file that i manually download.

WMP searches for a codec on the net, then says that i cant find one.
QuickTime does the same, but downloads a file called ON2, then says that its corrupt, and asks to download again, then its says that its corrupt again.....
RealOne says that its unable to play the file

The Tsunami filter pack is more up to date, anyway Boom AM, I've told you EXACTLY what to do answering all your questions, WMP CANNOT detect 3rd party codecs, you MUST play them with Media Play 6.4 whether you like it or not, or you can simply use the DivX5's DivX Player which comes with the codec, either way please don't ignore me asking the same questions which are ALREADY explained 2/3 times by everyone...

Sorry, I seem to be taking things out of people lately :|
Anyway if you look above, the link I gave you to Digital Digest is up there, search for the Tsunami Codec in that link along with the Xvid and the DivX5 codec, that should be enough, just install the Tsunami Codec first then the DivX5 then XviD, if you can't find them then tell me and I'll give you the links.

Thats alright, dont worry about it.
I think that the *.avi file that im trying to play is corrupt anyway, cos using the avi preview thing in kazaa lite, it says that the encoded video is messed up, but the sound is fine.

Well another way around that is downloading Virtuadub/Nandub from the same site, if it's a corrupt avi file you can actually fix it in there :)

Here are the Divx codecs from the official site if you still dont have them, just make sure you dont get the one that says Adware cause that will install crap from GAIN.
