WHS PP3 is already on line.

This page has a summary of what is provided by the PP3.

If your update is On it would install it when your computer does the next Update. Or log to the Console and execute manual update.

Let me briefly summarize the issues I have with your team:

1. I am aware of many cases when your product just does not do what it advertises - namely, it is unable to restore backups it created. Many people lost data, just because they trusted that your product is working for them.

2. Your team ignored Connect feedback from me and other people. Your team even lost log files we sent you. It is not only your product, but also your team that loses customer's data.

3. After all of that you "want to thank our community for all of their testing and feedback over these past months ". What did you need it for if you've ignored significant part of it.

Keep up a good work.

Does anyone here have any experience with WHS not being able to restore backups?

If you mean PP3, I never got around to testing restorations with it. If you mean WHS in general, I've got WHS servers in about eight locations and have never a single restoration problem.

In my own office and home, I've probably done about fifteen full system restorations from backups anywhere from one day old to six months earlier.

I have never had an issue in the slightest.

I do a lot of WHS work and never encounter some thing like this either.

Virtual Larry logged to the Team WHS Blog that I linked above and read some of the comments made by one specific reader on the linked page.

I personally ignore copy & paste like this since it is Not Virtual Larry own experience, but rather involves someone else, somewhere else, that has a "Beef" with somebody else.

We do not know the real background of the issue, we have No way to ask questions and find what the real issues are, thus it is a moot point.

I can attest that when it comes to Networking, the Majority of complains stems from Users Ignorance and Mistakes, rather than from genuine Hardware/Software problems. :(

I have this recurring issue on my laptop. No other system has done it yet, but it's happened 3 times with mine. You can't restore the laptop, it errors out at 3% with a backup service can't connect error. The other laptop and desktop and VM's backup and restore without issue, but mine will repeat the error every few weeks. Right now after the last rebuild (you have to delete the computer and backups from the server and reinstall the connector software). No one has been able to figure out why mines doing it yet.

Do you have to actually RESTORE the laptop to see this, or does the error show up when simply viewing the backed up files?

It does it restoring or viewing. Strangely it can restore from the Connector software. I'm told it's a driver issue (the driver that creates the virtual hard drive doesn't load properly). However for some of us reloading the driver and other fixed doesn't solve the problem. The only solution is to uninstall the connector software, remove the computer from WHS, and re-install the connector software and re-add the computer. This also requires a whole new backup set, which sucks when you're on wireless and have 240GB to backup.

It might be that the VM have to do something with it.

I never backup VM, from inside the VM, I just backup the whole VHD file from the Host.

I doubt it. This problem has been happening ever since I started using WHS, before the VM's. It only happens to my laptop, every other system comes out fine. It's weird..

I've finally hit a problem with restoring a machine. It seems to be with PP3, as I've never had issues before. It simply won't locate the server.

EDIT: Messed with the issue for a while last night, but never got it working. Downloaded new drivers and put them on a thumb drive and fed them to WHS during the restore, and everything is going smooth now. Weird that I had to do that this time, but I believe WIndows Update has incorrect drives for the Gigabtye EP45-UD3P rev 1.1, so that explains it.

I had serious issues after the PP3 update. I ended up reinstalling WHS (which works very smoothly and easily, BTW). My issues were related to all clients (four) having problems with the connector software upgrade/reinstall. I had been running the PP3 beta for a while and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it was something that I did since I did the upgrade rather hasilty, and I have just slightly more than zero patience.
