WHS 2011 $50 @ SuperBiiz

i agree, lack of support for advance format drives and easy 64-bit restores is getting annoying though.

Plus finding Nic drivers that work for WHS V1 is daunting.

That said WHS 2011 still has a lot of bugs that need to be worked out.

I've built 10+ WHS v1, never had any problem with hardware configs. Just don't use no-name hardware vendors and its not a problem.

I've had ZERO hardware problems or backup problems to.

What nic driver problems? Intel and realtec work flawlessly.

Atheros. I have extra PCI Nics that work great but unfortunetely my main system's Mobo only has PCIe

Also, one feature worth considering for the new WHS 2011 is the ability to backup your server in the same manner that the workstations are backed up. -Makes an image and can be restored easily with nothing but a blank server destination hard drive and a bootable CD that then connects to your external hard drive secondary backup location.
This was a big feature that was overlooked with WHS v1.

imho the lack of duplicated storage is a big minus to this relatively small plus.

I reluctantly tried the new version of WHS. I really didn't like that they removed the pooled storage. Once I got it up an running, I quickly retired my V1 WHS. The removal of the drive extender has been a non-issue for me. The new product is much quicker than the old. The other features such as remote access are much better. The server backup feature is very nice.

I have not tried to do a bare metal restore in this version. I did do it many times with V1 successfully. I haven't had a need lately.

Just my $.02

have you tried out any of the 3rd party products that add duplicated storage back in?

It really adds nothing over WHS v1..but removes a feature. It makes no sense is why they would make a new version. Its basically just a UI change.

I don't see it as any faster, remote desktop seems just the same to me. idk to each his own.

Because Win2k3 is EOL, so you won't get support for WHSv1 anymore period.

Just went in to buy it but the price is back up. Its $55.00 with the discount but it appears to go on sale every few weeks for less.
