I say the Kurt Russell character (Jack Burton?) from Big Trouble in Little China.

Hoke Mosley (played by the vastly-underrated Fred Ward) in Miami Blues was a hoot as well.

Just like Jack Burton always says.....

I also like the character Mark, that was popularized by Chow Yun Fat in A Better Tomorrow.

John McClane: the hero from the Die Hard trilogy. He kicked booty, looked good all sweaty. What more could a girl want? :)

Jack Burton...excellent!!!! Great answer...his arrogance and "macho" make an incredible hero... :>

John McClane... another great hero... his sarcasm while dealing with his own personal issues make him a character you can really get into...

Superman... nothing needs to be said.. supes is supes. :>.

Buckaroo Banzai... Brain Surgeon... Rock star... Brillaint Scientist..and he's got a direct line to the president.. BB rocks. :>

What about Remo Williams?!?!

:D

Another vote for Jack Burton here. Just the right combination of coolness and machoism without becoming too corny.

Ronald Colman as Sydney Carton in "A Tale of Two Cities" (1935)

Dalton from Roadhouse :)

Seriously though, probably Han Solo.

<edit>
Woah, let me say the "pre-Jedi" Han Solo. The Ewok loving wussy from Jedi is not Han Solo. Nor is the politically correct "Greedo-shot-first" Han Solo from the "Special Edition." I'm talking the frying-Greedo's-ass-from-under-the-table, Spice-smuggling, Stormtrooper-costume-stealing Han we all grew up wanting to be.

I agree with Inidan Jones.

Educated, a professor.

Travelled, able to speak at least a dozen languages.

Athletic, charismatic, a wiseass.

he had an irrational fear of snakes to make him more human, he hated the most despisable people ever: the Nazis.

He always got the girl, and he knew how to pick 'em.

Maybe he's not a true hero, but I like Humphrey Bogart's character in Casablanca, Rick Blaine.

Why should a hero have to be human?
I vote for Mufasa, as voiced by the magnificent James Earl Jones in "The Lion King."

The Lion king had so many great messages. The whole movie is a "Hero".

Arnold Swarzennegger when he played Dutch in Predator, or any of his movies for that matter.
