HI All

Its amazine how much this country is paying for this guys funeral!! The last time we saw a funeral like this was John Kennedys'. Considering JFK was shot while serving as president and keeping in mind he was a war veteran, this country owed it to him. Ronald Reagan never did anything but sponge the hell out of this country. While guys like my dad served as a marine during WWII, Ronnie was humping every starlet to come his way. They say Nancy Reagan been planning this funeral for the last 10 years. This country really went overboard!!!

I'm no fan of Reagan, but like it or not he was the President of this country. All Presidents, redardless of performance deserve a State funeral, regardless the cost. In the big scheme of things, there are much bigger fish to fry than worrying about the cost.

To the OP, I think you should be more concerned at how you squandered taxpayer dollars which were apparently a waste regarding your education.

Ronald Reagan was also shot while serving as president, and while not a war hero technically, he served our armed forces as a volunteer, tried to get active duty after Pearl Harbor but couldn't get active duty outside the US due to his eyesight and ultimately achieved the rank of Captain IIRC.

I liked Ronald Reagan, didn't always agree with his politics, but I thought he was a genuinely good guy. Like ALL our Presidents, he without a doubt, unquestionably, not only did the country owe it to him...he damn well derserved it and earned it.

There are millions of war veterans and it just isn't feasible to give them all state funerals. There are very few Presidents and it is a half drop in the bucket compared to what is spent in Washington.

Exactly. I have no problem with paying for a state funeral for Reagan. It is perfectly appropriate that we honor one of our Presidents like that, and the cost is not really significant. It will be interesting to see if the Clinton-haters are equally magnanimous in showing respect when he passes, though he'll probably outlive most of them.

I am concerned at how some Republicans have turned Reagan's passing into a campaign event. Not only is it disrespectful, even sleazy, but it is an improper use of tax dollars.

Conjur that wasn't a state funeral. A state funeral for a president involves the procession through washington, lying in state under the capitol rotunda, and the service at the National Cathedral. Nixons funeral involved none of those things. The last President I racall having a state funeral was LBJ I think. Every president has the right to a state funeral. It is their choice to whether to have it or not.

Only 11 presidents have chosen to have a state funeral.

I am not sure how it has turned into campaign event. It is definatly a far cry from the Wellstone event.

Where's the magnanimity? I see a lot of bashing going on here.

Clinton was a disgrace to the the office, but I a don't wish him any ill will. While President Reagan couldn't take his suit coat off in the oval office out of respect for the presidency, Clinton coudn't keep his pants on.

I bascially have Clinton on ignore mode.

Considering there was alot Reagan haters spitting venom, and even protesters holding signs "Reagns in Hell" on the procession route, I certainly dont expect the right to hold back anymore than the left did.

The Wellstone funeral was truly a disgrace, and its hilarious people are trying to compare Reagans death and funeral to it...

You do need to look into Ronald Reagans military service and the REASONS WHY he was rejected for a more active role in WWII!

Military background of Ronald Reagan.

Army reservist from 1937 to 1953.

Half decent President but don't dump on his military service.

So far, the right-wingers are the only ones comparing Reagan's funeral to Wellstone's. I suggest you take it up with them. I agree, it is hilarious.
