for me, WD has had the least failure rate (judging by my own purchases and my company's purchases).

Seagate :) I think not long ago, the only major national chain retail stores that carried Seagates were BB and Cusa. I'm seeing Seagates at CC too now.

I have never used seagate so I'll go with WD. with a hearty "fvck you" to IBM and their deathstar debacle.

SEAGATE! with their nice 5 yr. warranty. FSCK Western Digital - my 40GB caviar died after a year and a half. it was on for a week and i decided to turn off the computer and it got a mess of SMART errors. my ~8 year old quantum fireball is still goin strong.

Seagate and maxtor. My main rig has 2x 15k cheetahs, and my file server has 4x quantum (boutght by maxtor) atlas 10kIII's, and 10x barracuda's. All of them are very good drives, with great warranties and performance.

It has been 15 years since I have used a seagate. Most of my drives are wd and maxtor. WD has been very good to me. I can't say the same about Maxtor over the years. If I see a good deal on a seagate drive I think I would try it.
