For me, it would have to be Treasure:http://www.treasure-inc.co.jp/index01.html

Their obscure, cultish games are almost always undersold when they're available but become must-buys when they go out of print. By far, my favorite games from this company are:

Guardian Heroes
Radiant Silvergun
Gunstar Heroes

Not knowing a lot of those obscure tiny devs, I'll say Visual Concepts currently under 2K. Their sports games(NFL 2K and NBA 2K) are amazing year after year. They've just nailed it.

On the PC side, Valve is doing an excellent job, as well as Blizzard. On the console, I haven't been let down by Criterion yet.

I don't really have one, but I guess I'd have to pick Blizzard.

I was a big fan of Ambrosia back when I had a Mac.

Valve for me.

When I was listening to the developer commentary included in so much of the Orange Box (HL2: E1 and E2, Portal, and Lost Coast), it struck me how much time and effort they put into making their games really fun and not confusing. So often, when playing through a game, I lose where I'm supposed to be and have no idea what to do next. The commentary from Valve developers all talked so much about how a particular segment played out before they made a bunch of tweaks inspired by play testers.

Now, whenever I'm playing a game and I get horribly stuck (and it happens fairly often), I think, "Well, I guess these guys didn't use play testers like Valve does."

I never played it. I only played Radiant Silvergun, the predecessor to Ikaruga. I will try to find the GCN version or get it from Live when it becomes available (and when I get a 360).

I gotta say Blizzard, I've never played a bad Blizzard game, what's more, I've never played a Blizzard game that wasn't an outstanding excellence in it's particular genre, Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo, they are all great games, even their SNES games from when they had a different name (can't remember) like Rock n Roll Racing and Lost Vikings were pretty awesome games in their own right.

Blizzard never releases stinkers, that comes with a price, namely LONG development cycles and limited releases but I think it's well worth it.

Like most other people, I agree with Valve and Blizzard. I also really like Insomniac, Incognito, and Naughty Dog.

In addition to Black Isle and Bioware which have already been mentioned, I also really like Creative Assembly, Relic, Massive Entertainment, Infinity Ward, Monolith Productions, and Irrational Games.
