Who's your auto insurance provider & what's your experience been?

Well I'm looking at other insurance providers for my coverage. Not because I'm not satisfied with my current carrier (Liberty Mutual) but I would think that I could get a lower insurance rate than I currently have. Quick background I'm 27 years old, male, with a clean driving record. I have not had any accidents in the past 3 years, nor any tickets. I may get another quote because the coverage is under my parent's insurance (I pay them & they pay the insurance company) and I'm not sure I really need as much coverage as I have right now. Currently I'm covered for around $300,000 in property $250,000 in personal and I forget the rest but those are the bare basics, currently paying $160 a month. I've been looking at different insurance companies and thinking about my options with my current one. I was just wondering what other forum goers experience has been with their insurance provider.

i'm with progressive...waaay too many tickets(young and dumb)

paying 450 a month for liability on just my car...

haven't ever made a claim so i can't really testify to how good their service is...but they always deliver the bills on time 😉

GEICO and I love it. The few times I had to use them it has been real smooth and easy. GEICO *may* cost more than other providers, but I think it is one of those getting what you pay for type of deal. Also you can contact GEICO 24/7 and that is real nice if you have a work schedule and is hard to contact people through the day.

My insurance experiences...

State Farm: Very poor - well meaning agent but the claims dept. is a nightmare. "Not at fault" accident and I found the other insurance company to be more helpful!
Nationwide: Excellent - "At fault" accident, A+, A+, A+ after my State Farm experience, other party was paid promptly, my medical claim was paid promptly, and back to business.

I use Nationwide. After six months with them my agent told me he could switch me to a lower costing policy. I did it and about a month later his office sent me a late and cancilation noticie for the old policy. I went to his office to straighten things out and I got late and cancilation notices a month later. This went on for three months.

I had GEICO back in 96 and wasn't happy with them in the least. I was hit by another driver who was uninsured, and when it came time to get my car repaired, they wanted to give me $1,000 less than the cheapest quote (after the $500 deductable).

I have USAA now, and have been extremely happy with them so far. They have 24/7 staffing for any changes/claims on your auto policy (the homeowner's policy people go home at 5 I think), and the staff are very competant. As an added bonus, I get a nice check back from them at the end of the year (just in time for xmas). The dividend usually ends up being a little more than a month's worth of insurance for 2 vehicles.

Does anybody have experience with Amica? I've seen them advertised a bit and was wondering how well they perform.

Tokyo Marine. Damn fine people, good rates too. Wish someone there spoke English but I get by well enough. And um, this is in Japan. So if you ever need an insurance company out here, go with them.

Liberty Mutual was the least responsive overpriced provider I ever had.

Farmers or State Farm are pretty good - especially since they roll up some big
discounts if you have either renters or homowners insurance in the package.
You should be able to get both auto & the renters/homeowners option combined
for less than the auto would cost alone.

Now with Gieco, and no problems at all - would have gone with AAA but the office
in Fort Worth was so arrogantly non-responsive to my talking to them that I don't
think that they deserve anybodys money, especially mine - ever again.

farmers insurance. experience has been great. of course, it helps if your agent is an old family friend and you get awesome deductibles. 😎

I have Progressive, My experience has been good, I went through a period in '03 where I was changing junker cars every couple of months. Doing it all online made things hassle free.
They also had the lowest rate for me. (Liabiltiy only on a junker car)

Yup. I went from payng about $300 a month for one car with 21st Century to under $200 for two cars w/USAA

Also, I refinanced a car loan w/them and am now paying 3.5% 🙂

Auto Club - AAA - got into accident with an uninsured driver. They paid out the full amount needed to fix car with no hassle. Rates are a little higher than what the local broker can get me for some no name insurance, but it's worth it for the service.

$450/month!!!!!:Q:Q:Q???!1111:Q
I could get a new nice car with lower payment than that.

AAA. i live in LA so i'm obviously getting killed in my insurance rate, but when i had AAA with my parents insurance and got into an accident, it was extremely easy to deal with them.

only issue i had was that they didn't apply my renter's insurance discount to my auto insurance, but a phone call fixed that.

we had AllState for years until my son had an accident & the premiums went sky high.
so, after searching around, we switched to Progressive - we're satisfied so far.

State Farm: Crap. I don't pay for it, though, my dad does. I have had very bad experiences with them. The agent loves to treat our family like crap while we continue to fork over money to them. Honestly, I can't wait until I get my own insurance, it certainly won't be them.

I also have a personal issue with the company itself. I go to school in Bloomington, IL, their corporate headquarters, and I've had some beef with applying for the company and their application procedures. As it turns out, I got a better job, but I'm still bitter about the situation and the company in general.

State Farm,

worth the extra $100 or so a year over the cheaper companies. nothing but positive experiences and great customer service. Like having an agent for when sheit goes wrong they are there to help.
