If people spent as much time on unit tests as they do on "production code", the world would be a better place.

lol i know, was just messing with poor purbeast

the last 2 days before i went on vacation were spent refactoring and adding a few more unit/integration tests for the last sprint, and getting some cucumber tests ready for next sprint

I'm convinced that all the good folks from cognizant/tcs and such are frobidden from doing real unit testing per their management. Sure, they will say they unit test, but, I trust them as far as I can throw them.

it was like this when i worked at a software dev consulting company. in most cases the ix-nay on unit/acceptance tests came from the client, because our salesmen would say "it will cost 200$k more if you want us to write a complete set of unit and acceptance tests for your project".

so most client companies would say "we just want to pay for the site, not some stupid tests". and then we would hurriedly mash out some buggy site, have business analysts manually "test" it, and release a piece of crap to production to make the deadline. then the salesmen would push a long-term maintenance contract for big $$$, they would buy it to make the site actually work, and we would end up with more money than if we had just worked with the client in the first place to find out and test for what they really wanted.

I just laugh when I hear stories like this. Companies willing to save an extra few dollars up front end up spending way more in the long run. IMO, it is the same with outsourcing code. Sure, it is dirt cheap, but it is going to require 5x the maintenance.

I worked on a project that had zero unit tests. It was painful.

if i didn't have my firstborn coming in april, i probably would have used PTO for today and jan 2nd. but i need to bank all the PTO i can, because i want to take 2 weeks off in april, and we may do a babymoon at the end of january as well.

 Same here.

I need my whole two weeks for the April 27 due date.

Still working but taking a much-needed break. Heck of a day too.

Pfft: Retail. Even when I hold their hands and walk them through what needs to be done, the managers just wander off in the middle of an incident. I am not technically their boss and they aren't mine, but I am supposed to be coordinating them during these incidents. Problem is that they all collectively just assume something is over while I am stuck on the phone with emergency dispatch watching on camera as they walk off AFTER receiving instructions on what to do (Hint: I didn't instruct them to walk off). They abandoned us and didn't even THINK to check back (reporting back WAS part of the instructions).

WTF?!

Pics of you 2 in skirts?

kidding.

Late Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, loan shark. 😉

Worked a full day. 20/ 50 people were at out store today. Seems only around half were actually being productive though. *sigh* alas, I'm not management so I just worry about my own accounts, etc.

No. no, no. I'm the hand that feeds the mouth. I don't usually bite....:sneaky:

😀
Earlier I did get a pre-approved loan offer in the mail from some local place offering $1,600 "for holiday gift purchases" for something like $3,072 over 6 months. :hmm: Was that you?! 😉

I laughed 'cause those terms were kind of insulting (score is 740).

Not me. Typically my highest is $1045 with a payback of $1440 over 12 months. Want a loan?

I get those in the mail from local places. They buy lists form equifax and mass send them.
