who's working today?

purbeast0

No Lifer
there are about 4 out of like 80 people here today. it sucks to be here but it's quiet so i'll get a lot of stuff done. also working jan 2nd and i'm expecting the same turn out that day.

I'm here, doing the same amount of work I usually do.....:whiste:

I'll be catching up to your post count before long.😛

yeah where do you think the majority of these posts came from lol? i remember i started on these forums when working my first internship between college semesters. 13 years later, i'm still making most of my posts while at work.

I'm working today and tomorrow. Same goes next week, half day on the eve, off the actual holiday, work the next two days after.

if i didn't have my firstborn coming in april, i probably would have used PTO for today and jan 2nd. but i need to bank all the PTO i can, because i want to take 2 weeks off in april, and we may do a babymoon at the end of january as well.

it would be so nice to be sitting in my basement in sweatpants playing some killer instinct right now 🙁

I had to Google what babymoon was.

Yep. Working from my motel's lobby so I can let my bro sleep in the room in case I need to be on the phone. I don't think there's too many people in so hopefully it'll continue to be quiet so I can get stuff done.

wrong! already have finished quite a bit of unit tests!

Exactly! I can post a bunch because after I do some work, I have to compile and then locally deploy to a WAS server, and on these crap machines that takes awhile. Plenty of "down time" between that to post on ATOT.

If people spent as much time on unit tests as they do on "production code", the world would be a better place.

i agree, and i'm one of those people who didn't spend enough time on them. just never really did them at previous gigs. but writing good unit tests also makes you write code that is easily testable, which usually results in better code overall with smaller functions.

I'm convinced that all the good folks from cognizant/tcs and such are frobidden from doing real unit testing per their management. Sure, they will say they unit test, but, I trust them as far as I can throw them.

the problem boils down to time. writing unit tests takes time. and everyone wants everything right now, so there is rarely time to write good unit tests. the higher ups don't realize the long term benefit of taking time now to save a lot of time in the future. they just want new features right now!

Sigh. Yeah, working today supervising a bunch of dechipping, cleaning, and watching some installs go in.

That's why I'm on ATOT =).

I'm working today. I didn't have plans to go out of town so I'm covering so a co-worker can take the day off. There's about 10 out of ~600 people actually here today. Needless to say there's a lot of productivity happening! 😉
