Who's WinXP slipstream instructions did you use?

Guys,

I'm getting ready to do my first WinXP Pro install, and have been reading some interesting sites on slipstreaming the SP1a and the more recent update pack into the CD.

First off, is this process worth my time? I have a cable conenction - am I better off just doing the basic install and then doing Windows Update? If it is worth the time, what site/reference do you like best for creating a slipstreamed CD?

It is worth it only if you think it is. I have DSL and I preferred having the SP slipstreamed into my OS anyhow. I like the fact that some security patches were already installed before I had to get online to update everything plus a service pack. I think all the sites work about the same. Different directions probably yeild the same results, no matter the paths taken to get there. A word of advice. Download and install the Blaster fix before connecting to the internet at all. Or be sure the Windows XP firewall is enabled for your cable connection. An unprotected XP computer on the internet is sure to be nailed within minutes. Not hours. I have seen this with several people who called me after doing their own XP installs and then saying "I have Blaster! How is this possible!?"

I have tried 4 times to do this using win98 as my system, Ijuat get griping so I posted a question on this forum to see if anyone ever did that within win98, like EeyoreX sais it is dangerous to be unprotected and I seek to have all the things I need in order to get online protected, but I hate to first have to install win2000 or XP b4 I can slipstream my bootable WinXPSp1a CD

Guys, thanks for the replies. Some questions come to mind - 1) TungFree, were you ever able to do a slipstreaming operation w/i 98? That's what I'm running currently, and I don't have access to an XP machine. Is it possible to do a slipstream w/i 98SE? 2) EeyoreX, I'm assuming the Blaster fix you're referring to is "WindowsXP-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe." 3) bacillus, I wasn't able to link to the site you recommended. Have you visited it lately?

In addition to the the Blaster fix, I've also downloaded SP1a and the XP rollup (WindowsXP-KB826939-x86-ENU.exe), is there anything else I should consider slipstreaming into the CD?

Someone in my thread said no it is not possible, iand I have only heard one person say it is possible, and he could be wrong.

This was posted on my thread

I have tried it 5 times but I have not tried the 2nd site posted by backcillus, I tried the first one he posted and my win98 system griped.
All the help sites will work as bellow:
The websites that were posted in this thread are great tools and will work great if you have a win2k system or a XP system already running.

No one other than the one person from Dalnet channel has said it can be done in win98. Those sites that say nothing just will gripe towards when you execute the SP1a file.
So here is what I plan on doing.
1. use norton Ghost and backup my C:Drice so if I get into trouble I can restore my back up in less than 20 minutes and be where I am now.
2. disconnect my cable Internet for safety (after I have alll the drivers, and files needed to coplete the installation without going on the Internet.
3 use a partition of some hard drive I have also backed up because this partition will be a testing ground. I have an extra Hard drive for that, and whn O have the sustem slipstream CD winXpSP1a finnished as I like it I will back it up then restore to it what I originally backed up and wanted to keep.
4 restore the XP_SP1a setup to my C drive and top it off with a final upgrade of what I want in my system., backing up each days upgrades as I go.
