I was wondering how do they select winners of these especially among the High School Students? I heard it was just to make money by selling crap to the students. Any info?

They mail out something to every high school and college kid in the country. Whoever pays them gets into Who's Who.

not true, there's a reason certain high school students are selected. i was in it 4 years ago (my senior year of HS) for being a National Merit Scholar.

lol I know they have some sort of selection process I am just not sure how they do it, and i know every high school student doesn't get it. Also you don't have to pay to join. Still wondering how they select the students though

I don't think you actually have to pay to get listed. But it's still bs. My mom ordered the book the first time. Oh man, what a waste it was. 500 pages for all the high school students in one state. And 4 or 5 lines devoted to me. And to tell you how selective they are, one year I was listed twice. Once for each variation of my first name. ;)

edit: I imagine they select people based on scores from one of your standardized tests. Easy to sort through millions of students that way. Maybe PSAT? I don't remember. I think the earliest I took a PSAT was in 7th or 8th grade.

They select randomly, as I know people who are barely passing high school who were selected for that book.

It's equally pointless at the college level, you're just paying for a listing in the Big Book of Guillible People, they count on parents wanting to be able to tell their friends that "my son/daughter made it into Who's Who this year!" Tell your parents to use the $40-50 to take the family out to dinner or something else fun.

When i was an undergrad I'd get the offers every year just for being on the dean's list, which is based only on GPA.

I was selected :0

I added every imaginable thing into the sheet they sent to be listed. I was a straight c student ( homework sucked ) but now, according to who's who, I was on the honor roll for all 4 years, and stayed after school 8 hours a day for clubs :)

My grampa was in Who's Who of America for years, but after not buying their book for 5 years I think you get taken out.

Yeah I got one of those things, I filled out the form, but they won't see a cent from me.

I was in it but I do not remember exactly why. I think I did well on a test or something. My family went apesh!t and bought three or four copies of the book.
