Who's using the onboard sound on the Epox 8K7A?

Just built a system for my bro, he decided to use the onboard sound until he gets the cash to get a better soundcard later.

Ive never tried the onboard sound on my 8K7A cuz I have a SB Live.

To say the onboard sound was a massive pain in the A** would be a polite understatement!

I tried downloading the latest drivers for the sound chip from the 8K7A section on Epoxs website, weel when I run the .exe file, all I get is a dos box popup with a bunch of jibberish that ends with "installation aborted".

He is Using WinMe, Nvidia 27.42 drivers,DirectX 8.1
What I need to know is.
1)what drivers are you using for onboard sound? Where from?
2)what is listed under sound video & game controller properties for your soundcard? & Driver dates please!
3)What EXACTLY should be enabled in the bios, I have the onboard sound(Ac97) on AUTO, but what about the soundblaster reference,gameport & the mpu 401 reference?
4)What Via 4.1s are you using? (I know to use the AMD miniport & not the via one)
5)Did you install the USB filter from the Epox CD?

We got the sound working with the drivers from the epox cdrom & MOHAA + RTCW sound fine, but in Nascar4, the sounds stutters awfully bad & drops the framerate from 40-50 to 10-12fps when sounds start playing! (spotter sounds like hes underwater & engine sounds are major snap crackle pop!)

So help me get all the right drivers installed, Im using WinXP now, so I havent played with the via 4.1s in awhile.(XP defualt ones work just fine) 🙂
 
That is about all you can expect from AC97. It doesn't really matter what drivers you install because it wont help much. Just try to survive until he can get a better sound card.

1. He's using ME

2. If he is using a 200mhz FSB chip this will be the main problem. I was using onboard sound on my 8k7a with a 1.4 Tbird 266 with NO issues. I could have many things open and still get no MP3 skips. Well I killed my 1.4 and had to use an old 1.2 200 for a while. Sounded like crap!
