Who's using Google Chrome?

I tried it briefly a couple of days ago. Fast! And there IS a home page button, it just doesn't show by default. The thing I disliked was bookmark management or lack thereof. The ability to access your default email program from inside the browser would be nice as well.

I tried it out last week. The only real complaint I have about it is that for some inexplicable reason, it doesn't have Google Toolbar support. Add that, and I'd realistically consider switching over from Firefox.

One thing I'd really like to hear the thoughts of others on though - what exactly are you guys finding "faster" about Chrome (vs Firefox)? I've seen numerous people make comments about this, but I can't tell the difference, speedwise. Is there some specific aspect that people are finding is snappier with Chrome?

Ok so i am as big of a fan of google as anyone. And not as much as anyone.

Chrome didnt last for me very long, i guess im just to used to my FF with addons. I mean ABP, foxmarks, fast dial, download bar, download them all and more. How can you live without these addons?

I do like the way chrome can drag and drop out tabs, but isnt that useful.

So who is still using it?

I still am. Never needed those Firefox extensions. Firefox already did everything I needed, but so does Chrome. And I love Chrome's process per tab design, it really is useful when you visit one of those sites/files that would have frozen your browser for a good while. In Chrome it only freezes one tab, other browsers would have completely frozen. Besides, Chrome is faster, especially on javascript heavy sites.

It renders pages quicker for me, and everything has a generally snappier feel. I'm still using FireFox as my main browser though.

One specific problem is that Firefox requires a lot of hard drive power.

story:
I bring my own web browser (and other stuff) to university on a USB stick. The stick itself is very fast, and it can write at a solid 20mb/s. Even with that kind of speed, Firefox Portable was laggy as hell. The page would load, but scrolling was crippled beyond belief. The light on the USB stick was blinking nonstop, and it would keep blinking long after the page was finished loading. I tried Google Chrome's portable version, and it didn't have that problem. The page would load, the scrolling worked fine, and the USB wasn't flashing all the time for no reason. Opera Portable didn't have that problem either; it worked just as good as regular Opera.
I don't know what the hell Firefox is doing, but it requires a lot of power to do it.

So far I think Google Chrome is a very good browser, but it's not yet good enough for me to use it. If it had a spellcheck and video downloader, I would switch over.

Umm, Chrome does have a spell checker. As a matter of fact its the same as FF3 uses. And what do you mean by video downloader? It can stream videos just fine or download them like regular files.

Is there like a chrome website that will keep track of all addons made for the browser? I've been looking for a mouse gestures one and I haven't found it yet.

whats annoying is they make it hard to quickly switch between search engines. thats a dick move microsoft doesnt even pull these days.

I can't get this to work either.

I don't think it is even possible to turn off the spell checker unless you compile your own build from Chromium. At least I didn't find such option from settings and it was turned on by default.

Perhaps you should describe your video problems much better before any of us can offer their insights into the matter.

Chrome is eating lot off ram than any other browsers and google update prog. is running in the background also eating the resources. So, it is not so nice.

Chrome is using more RAM because it uses one process per tab instead of one thread per tab like Firefox and IE6/7. IE8 uses some sort of hybrid approach.

With this new approach Chrome's other tabs are not affected when one website is not behaving. Typically when you browse a website that crashes the browser, it brings the whole browser with it. Or when you browse a website that causes the browser to freeze for a while, all tabs are affected. Not so with Chrome. Chrome also has better garbage collection and less memory leak problems thanks to this.

I for one welcome higher RAM usage if it means browser behaves all that much better. Also, you have bought your RAM to be used. If it is not used, it is wasted.

i don't like the tabbing system myself. once you open up enough tabs it gets very difficult to tell whats open and what you've closed. and the download window. it would be nice if they added something like what ff has where you can clear out everything but whats currently downloading instead of having to remove each individual file.

outside of those two big problems for me, i like it.

I've used Firefox, Opera, and IE7 extensively. I used to not touch anything but Firefox. Then I used Opera exclusively for a while. I hate Firefox because it can't run files from a temporary location. Now, I use nothing but IE7. It's quick, stable, has tabs, renders all the websites correctly, and is compatible with Hotmail. The only issue is that it doesn't have a download manager and can't download very large files reliably. Hopefully, IE8 will fix that.

I think the keyword here is "switch between" without the extra step of entering "Options".

Whether you use Firefox or IE7, you can easily select a different search engine by clicking the "down" chevron from the search box - not so friendly in Chrome. This assumes that you've already added whatever search engines you use.
