How do you like it? When I first heard of W98's multiple-monitor support, I didn't see me using it. But when my new (used) 21" monitor turned out to be great for games but not so great for reading, I tossed in another vid card and hooked up the 'ol 17-incher. Still got a few bugs to work out, some of my games are confused, but it's great!

If the guy's having that many freaky problems, I seriously doubt it's all related to having dual monitors.

I started out with an ATI Xpert 98 PCI as my secondary display, but had so many problems in Win2k that I gave up on it. Then I got a G200 from uBid for $63 (quite a bargain at the time), and it has been perfect. I love the convenience. I do web development as a hobby, and it's really cool to have CF Studio open on one monitor while previewing the page I'm building on the other without having to switch windows using the taskbar. Multimonitor is one of those features that sounds extravagant, but really comes in handy.

The only game-related problems I've had are with OpenGL games, Q3A specifically. It won't start unless the secondary display is disabled first. Otherwise, no complaints.

I set several people in the office up with G400 Max dualhead cards and they love it. The only problems are the occasional aesthetic glitch like a login box that pops up between monitors. Other than that everything runs rock solid on Windows 2000 Pro.

I got an Asus V7100 about 2 months ago. It's nice, but I've been using an old fuzzy 15" monitor with my 21" and it's causing some real eyestrain. I don't know if I should get a 19" CRT or a 15" digital flat panel.

got two 19" on TNT2 ultra and voodoo3 3k, runs great, had some problem initially, but once setup correctly, everything is fine. I've tried several setup, but it works best when you have two same size monitor with same resolution. It feels like having one extended monitor, it feels natural and much easeir on your eye.

But what ever setup you have, you won't go back after you experience it!!

What's better: buying a second video-card for the other monitor, or one of those 'dual-head' cards? What's actually the best 'dual-head' video-card? (I don't play loads of games and am running Win2k)

Thanks =)

With the dual head video cards, you got choice of Matrox G400/450, Geforce2 MX based cards, and up coming ATI card based on value redeon chip. Matrox dual head has been around for a long time, if you don't need 3D performance, they have the best dual head functionalities. But if you want to play 3D game Geforce2 MX based cards may be better.

If you want the ultimate performance, you have to go with a high performance video card and a second PCI card. So it really depends on what you want your system for. If you don't need 3d, Matrox card will be your best bet.

Thanks, Seewhy.

How is multi-monitor support under Linux? I'm afraid that I'm getting fed up with Windows ;) and maybe I'll switch completely to Linux one day.

I have a dual monitor setup on my main system, and love it. I just need faster video cards :) I currently run a TBird 900 on a KT7 with a Voodoo3 2000 PCI as my primary adapter and a Matrox Millennium 2MB PCI card as my secondary, driving a 21" NEC MultiSync 5D (manufacturered April of 1991) and a 19" Philips 109S I bought less than a year ago. I plan on getting a GeForce2 and dropping the Matrox. (This is after I get my Sony Wega in a few months though :))

I am pretty sure Matrox has Linux drivers available. You can also use muliple video cards under linux, but you have to know linux pretty well with all the configuration. see this link if you are interested: Multi Monitor under linux.

Just luvvin' it.

I've had dual monitors since I got 98 (started on a 15" & a 14" with 4MB and 2MB cards)
Now I've got a 19" and 15" with Annihilator2 MX and Voodoo3 3000... I don't know how I could live without a dual setup, now.
