Who's the second greatest superpower right now?

I realize that the US may be the only superpower and no one else even remotely close, but with the choices we have, who is #2 on the most powerful or greatest countries list? Someone told me China was the world's #2 superpower, but I didn't believe that
 
China from the standpoint of self defense. However, the Chinese military has very little capability to move outside China. That keeps them from being a "superpower" in my opinion. Either Russia or U.K. is second in ability to intervene.

 
As far as strength, or the ability to use that strength? I would say that while China has a huge land based force, they wouldn't be able to effectively deploy it such as countries like GB could.
 
russia is weak in the economical area, but theyve still got crazy firepower... just can't afford to run it too well.
 
Well I'm not really sure what should define a superpower... If one views it as terms in able to dominate another country, then it could be country a, but then you can be an economic dominator and then you could be country b (japan). What makes China the second superpower? Unfortunately I know very little about China's current state, i've never been informed of how they are doing now, just how communism ruined them and how there's poverty everywhere.
 
I think the second most powerful entity on earth is Motorhead.

I mean, if Lemmy told you to get your sh!t together or he was coming over...wouldn't you do it?
 
maybe I should start a poll polling "what defines a superpower" and then update this thread with a criteria, as that seems to be the official ATOT trend these days 🙂
 
The second strongest country is still us. The US could divide into several pieces and split the hardware to rank 1-4 as world superpowers. Russia has plenty of nukes, but the rest of their military machine is a joke. Same for China, millions of soldiers, but no navy or air force, so unless they prepared to march across the earth and face air power with a mass of screaming men with bayonets, they're nowhere. Japan has some good weapons they bought from us, but no real capability to capture and hold land. France? BWAHAHA!!! Sure they have nukes, but they'd still find a way to surrender to a pack of cub scouts with a rusty BB gun. After us, us, us, and us, probably the best military on earth, nukes aside, would be Israel. They're the only country that combines modern air power with modern land weapons and a professional, well-trained army.
