Just to piss off the OP

BB
Circuit City (damn, ebay won that one)
Flea markets
Amazon

I figure the OP is tired of ebay and just wants us to tell him better places. Should have just asked for it instead of trying to make it so "informative" for everyone out there.

The post is pretty simple if you just THINK about it! 😉

If someone asks you for an alternative to NOD32 are you going to tell them Google? 🙂

The post was suppose to be something informative to other readers to find alternatives to ebay, but it's falling way short of that... 🙁

ebid? ubid?

dasfox, your refusing to accept amazon as ebay's primary competitor is retarded.

your question, if that was what you're after, is what are ALTERNATIVES to ebay in the scope of self-listed online auctions.

That's not even in the same scope of ebay vs. amazon.

but it would be a perfectly acceptable response.

I'm telling you as a former eBay employee that Amazon is eBay's largest competitor. Thinking of eBay as purely an auction site is wrong, over 60 percent of eBay listings end up w/ BIN

What is BIN-AE?

No one ever said they're dismissing anything about Amazon. Let's just list the biggest competitors to ebay as Auction like sites...

Ok so let's move on...

THANKS

The only two websites I know of that directly compete for ebay business is ubid.com and bidz.com

Otherwise, eBay is the universal de facto flea market.

They are not online auction sites...

Yes it is. Example:

You post an item on Craigslist. There is a list ("buy it now") price. You get emails from interested "bidders" who offer you less money than you're asking. Eventually someone offers you the price you want. You email back the low bidders telling them that someone else is offering more money. After a couple of rounds of this, you sell to the highest bidder. Done.

"Hey, what's the biggest competitor to the M3?"

"Hmm, I guess the CTS-V, Audi RS4, MB SLK55 AMG..."

"NO THEY'RE NOT, none of those have exactly the blend of performance, style, luxury and driving feel of the M3"

"Well of course not, that's the whole point."

Not all market segments are occupied by DIRECT competitors. Everyone's gotta find their niche.

I thought eBid was one of eBays biggest online auction competitors?

Selling computer related stuff on AnandTech is really great. 🙂

Stop banging on the OP. I think he's going for biggest competition in terms of auction format:

It's like saying "What's Google's biggest competitor in terms of mapping?" Well one could say GPS systems or one could say Mapquest. Sure Google competes overall with M$ and Yahoo, but when you're talking about mapping, you have to target its direct competitors. What does Google Chrome compete with? Obviously not Yahoo, but M$ IE and Mozilla FF. What about Gtalk? AIM, MSN. Go figure. The OP is asking for competition in terms of auction format. Make it clear to him that yes Amazon is the biggest competitor, but when you talk about auction format, it might not be Amazon? Although I do think the marketplace is a heavyweight in this fight...
