Yea but its not in this thread at all ... i dont think many people know about those movies.

i've seen all 7 of them. the last 2 are so fvcking stupid they aren't even worth watching.

i voted for michael meyers, for the reasons the OP stated. michael meyers is also the slickest. just watch the first one. when jamie lee curtis looks outside of school and he's looking at her, then she looks again and he's gone. only a slick bastard could have timed that so perfectly.

also, the way he kills, is so discrete. he just stabs people. he doesnt make a mess usually either.

however, in the later ones, they started to give michael meyers a new style of killing, which kind of pissed me off, because his killings went from serious to just plain out funny, like freddy and jason.

EDIT;

this was a tough call though. leatherface is such a badass too. i mean the dude is just a normal person who is crazy as shlt. mike meyers has SOME type of special powers cause he sure seems to "die" quite a few times, then be right back the next movie. Leatherface is just a crazy mofo!

if you had added Captain Spalding, Otis, and Sheri, I may have voted for them. But Mike Meyers is just classic.

Yeah I was trying to keep it with villains from A) horror/slasher flicks (i.e. no Joker, Lex Luthor) and B) villains most people have heard of. Also went with the "was there a sequel?" approach.

The best villians mess with your mind. Thus, I love Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs. From your list, Freddy is the closest since he loved attacking each kid's fears.

hannibal lecter's more of a protagonist than a villain in the SotL trilogy...

but yeah... he's one of the coolest movie characters of all time

I haven't seen hellraiser. But, some of the Halloween movies I found to be among those that left the most enduring "fright" as I walked home from the theater. Freddy Kruger was too... fictional. No one would believe such a thing in the real world.

For what it's worth, Jaws was the best villain 🙂

Clive Barker has always been my favorite horror author, and "The Hellbound Heart" was one of my favorite shorts...

No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering

We will tear your soul apart.

Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell!

Time to play...

please, feel free, explore. We have eternity to know your flesh.

leatherface rules all, as was pointed out. leatherface is great because he is doing what he thinks he needs to do to get by, its not flashy and he doesnt mess around.
in this poll, i think only 3 or 4 are really culturally resonant.
my only problem with jason and mike myers is that they are basically the same anymore and both are just like the mummy minus the cloth.
freddy is my second pick because he was crafted into dreams and sleep, a vulnerable time for humans. i think even in the films dumbest moments, the concept was interesting enough to really remain relevant.

I can't believe you guys don't have the clown from IT on here and Leprechaun.

Most people don't think of TV movies. Plus, while I found the clown very scary, the actual monster at the end was quite lame IMHO.

Good point. I love movies that mess with your head. Hannibal Lecter would probably be my favorite non-slasher movie villain (or the Joker).
