Who's pumped for Halo: Reach?

I am pumped for Halo Rech. Next year looks to be an amazing year for gaming xbox 360 & ps3. I can't wait. I have a new copy of ODST but, I'm too backed up with games I haven't played.... I haven't gotten to it yet 🙁

Halo ODST looked mediocre from day one. if it didn't have Halo in the title I bet it would not have been as well received.

Not anticipating this at all. The only Halo I've played is 3 and it was pretty dissapointing. MP is ok but COD has surpassed it.

Of course though, if it somehow gets crazy rave reviews like Uncharted 2 or something, I'll check it out.

I know I'm going to upset some people by saying this, but I couldnt care less for the Halo series. I respect and can appreciate what it has done from a console/multiplayer standpoint, but I'm more interested in the Single play portion (of most games these days).

Hell, I havent even played my copy of CoD:MW2 online yet. 🙂

I didn't want to be the one that said it first. 😀

I am excited for it, ODST was a let down.

warcrow: You didnt enjoy the campaigns in halo?

I've played my way through Halo 1 (PC) partically, and all the way through Halo 2 & 3. I enjoyed Halo 3 online more than anything, but when it comes to MP shooters, when I have the time or craving to play (which isnt often these days) I would much rather play something else.

Overall they were alright I suppose. It was mostly a (slightly above) mediocre experience with a few spikes in quality here and there. The shooting feels solid, but I just cant get past the overly generic (looking & feeling) Doom look-a-like protagonist. Which really isnt that big of a deal, but it's the world that just doesnt interest me at all. Infact the only reason I was able to get through the game is because I kept pressing forward waiting to get my socks knocked off.

It just never happened. Again, I know this games means a lot to a large group of people out there, but for me it just didnt resonate.

Honestly, I think reading the books (especially the first one) really enhances the single-player because it fills in most of the back story of the Halo Universe, the Covenant, and who and what Master Chief is. Those are things that are alluded to in the games but can't be fully conveyed. I read the Fall of Reach right before Halo 1 came out and it definitely helped with the enjoyment because the book ends literally right when Halo 1 begins.

That's cool. I've heard from a few forum posters that the books were pretty good, but it does make me question the game's narrative techniques and design. There should be more meaningful things said to help me (and others) care. I know that it's not Bungie's goal (obviously) for the game, but it is Valve's for the HL series (single player-wise) and I think that turned out pretty well. I dont even know if there are HL books to be read (sans fan fic) for the series but I think even stating that fact says alot about the game progressive story telling techniques.

I really am trying not to sound pretentious and I hope I'm not coming across that way, I just can't get excited for any of these games. 🙁

Halo campaigns sucked after the first one. 3 especially. The flood became a stupid plot item that was actually frightening in the first game. They overused it far too much. Elites are also much more interesting enemies then Brutes. The first game felt like you really were exploring an alien world, no sense of mystery in the latter ones. Halo 3 had some potential with the Ark level but they turned that into a generic assault mission.

What happened to levels like 343 Guilty spark and Assault of the Control room. I still remember those levels much better than anything from Halo 2 or 3.
