Shouldn't be too long on the MP beta hopefully. They said beginning of 2010.

The new game engine looked pretty nice. Can't wait to see more.

I am!

By the way, are there any other FPS/TPS that have "free-roaming" sections with vehicles a la Halo?

Do you know if it's a modified Halo 3 engine or all-new? Either way, the character models look friggin awesome awesome for in-game, a big leap over ODST, especially considering that (I assume) it's gonna go back to big open areas ala Halo 1, 2 and 3. Plus, call me a weirdo, but I think the Halo games would look weird at 60fps like MW2, as the 30fps feels more cinematic. Maybe cuz it's closer to 24fps, maybe I'm just insane...

They look more cinematic because they don't run at the terrible 600p resolution that MW2 does, as a tradeoff for its 60fps.

Completely new engine. They've been working on it since Halo 3 was released. ODST uses a modified Halo 3 engine.

So is this going to be a fully new game? Or is this going to be another full priced expansion with very little new multiplayer?

Fully new game with a fully new engine. This isn't going to be ODST which was developed in 14 months. When it is released in the fall of 2010, Reach will have had a full 3 years of development.

If they're doing a new game engine for it (is it me, or does it look like it might be using UE3?), I'd hope its more than ODST. I think that game showed that, while people will still buy/play Halo, people want to play the Spartans, not the regular human troops.

This game will hopefully be what Halo 2 should have been. Forget the Flood, forget the Brutes and the splitting of the Covenant, and focus on the basic humans versus the original Covenant. Take the big open areas that made the first game fun, and then make them into more epic battles like Bungie wanted to. I believe they're going to put a strong emphasis on roles, with certain Spartans being better at certain tasks. Yeah, its not original, and again, its something they talked about doing a long time ago (and at least one of the books strongly emphasized this), but it will allow them to implement RPG elements in multiplayer (and possibly single player) much like MW.

Who exactly is making this game? I know Bungie basically said they wanted to do one last real Halo project, and then move on, so was that ODST or is this it?

Yeah, if you've ever read the Fall of Reach novel I think it will kind of follow that. In that they had some Spartans with specialized roles (sniper, etc). Master Chief was just kind of the all-around workhorse leader with a lucky streak. Halo: Reach presumably follows the story of the Spartans that were on the planet when it fell to the Covenant in the book. They were presumed lost.

This is Bungie's last Halo game. The Halo franchise goes over to 343 Industries after this.

This game looks sick as hell...

*minor Crysis spoiler*

The concept reminds me of the part in Crysis Warhead when Psycho meets up with the Nanosuit clad Eagle Team.. I was like WTF ANOTHER TEAM OF SUPER SOLDIERS!?!?

I hope they put the Spartans up against some serious enemies. Considering the ODST guys can blow through the Brutes, they better make some epic encounters.

I really hope the game lives up to the trailers. Cuz halo always has pretty good trailers, but the games never come close. Need more epic moments.

Halo got me back in to gaming, and I went to launch releases for the Xbox/Halo, Halo 2 and halo 3. I will not be doing that again, Halo single player is losing it's appeal to me, I have not liked the SP of 2 or 3. I will rent it first

I am now that I know it has nothing to do with Natal. For some reason the name just made me think that there was some Natal stuff you hand to do with it.

Watched trailer - can't say I'm too pumped.

I think Halo has just lost its magic for me. I loved Halo 1. Halo 2 was meh. Halo 3 was better than 2 in my opinion, but I still wasn't really excited by it or have any fond memories from it.

Halo: ODST looked bleh, and Halo: Reach (based on that trailer) looks pretty bleh as well.

At least the (supposed) squad combat will be interesting. Having a set of distinct personas is always a fun addition to the campaign.

I actually wasn't impressed with the trailer for this. It doesn't really show anything and didn't build up much, just kinda hinted at the "classes". Hopefully this will be the opposite of Halo 2, where the trailer promised so much only for the game to be a pretty big letdown.

Yeah, I greatly prefer Halo 1's campaign because it was very much Humans vs Covenant. It was a bit reptitive, the library sucked, and I wish the Flood had been just in the first game. It was an ok twist, but I hated that the story ended up centering around it. 2 and 3 had good parts, and were enjoyable (and 2 made a lot more sense to me playing through a second time), but I just wasn't a fan of where the story went. Just something about the atmosphere of the first game was more appealing, how it would go from isolation to decently sized battles and the open areas in many parts. I remember Bungie talking up Halo 2, and then the game just didn't live up to it. ODST seemed to introduce some nice ideas, but I don't know that it fit Halo well.

I like the new Spartans, and hopefully they'll really build that into the campaign (make it so it is co-op oriented). To me, co-op was what made Halo so fun. At the same time, Master Chief was the most appealing character to play as. I'd love to see them have separate campaigns for solo and co-op. I might be mistaken, but I believe the Master Chief was on a mission on Reach just prior and leading up to the invasion.

I will be as it sounds like Bungie is going back to what made the franchise appealing (Human vs Covenant), adding in class system (will be really curious how this turns out, hopefully not Brute Force badly, which is why I think they scrapped it for Halo 2), and since its their last Halo project (for now at least), they'll pull out all the stops and make the game they wanted to after Halo 1.

I've never been a big Halo multiplayer person. We played the original quite a bit and had a lot of fun, and the 2nd and 3rd were fun but I never really got into them much. Probably 50% of our play in the original heavily involved everyone would get in a warthog and then we'd just crash into each other and if you fall out try to run you over to get kills.

Yep. He was actually in a UNSC ship in orbit along with several other Spartans when the Covenant attacked per the Fall of Reach novel.

Reach was where the Spartan program was developed as well.

Didn't he go to find the doctor that created the program on the planet? Or maybe that was the third book and when he got the new armor? I can't remember its been too long. I remember them being in some hidden facility, but I don't remember at what point that was.
