Who's preordering X-COM?

How do you pass your turn using the controller?

Say if you move once, and dont want to move a second time? Some soldiers cant use overwatch on the second move, all i can do is use hunker down, which seems clunky. Theres no pass or am i missing it?

There's a big "X"-marked "End Turn" button on the left. Backspace is the keyboard short cut, I imagine it's linked to a button on the controller as well.

If you mean switching between soldiers, just use "tab" or left click.

Pre-load is up now

Also, for those looking for the best deal. Greenmangaming has it for $44.99 and it comes with Civ 5 and a $10 credit to GMG

Didn't score the GMG deal, but I did get a 15% off IGN Prime discount from GamersGate. Got my key and I'm pre-loading now. Thanks for the heads-up.

Told myself I would wait for reviews, but I jumped on this. With the $10 credit and ebaying Civ5 (already got it), ~$25 out of pocket for the game was too good to pass up.

Besides the guys I can play Borderlands 2 with are incredible loot whores . I like the guys but they suck to play with (esp when your the sniper)

Ill just be glad to play this game on my own without "the gang"

Yeah and direct2play sells grey market keys that are suppose to be for Russia or other really cheap regions only.

There is one full review up which claims the single player campaign is only 20 hours long (which seems kind of short).

Does the difficulty scale drastically differently from older games (as in increases in things like research time)? Playing on higher difficulties didn't make them take much longer assuming you were good enough to be playing on them to begin with.

From what we've been told it does.

How long will a normal playthrough of XCOM: Enemy Unknown take?

Garth: Anywhere from 15-20 hours on normal, and a lot longer on the higher difficulties. From day one, we did build this to be completely replayable. In this regard, it’s kind of long for a replayable game. We totally expect people to replay.

Jake: The difficulty level changes. If you play on normal, it will take 15-20. If you bump up to Classic (a higher difficulty) not only is it longer, but it’s going to be a completely different experience because you’ll need to focus on different elements to overcome the same obstacles.

There's also an Iron-man mode which is the hardest difficulty and no re-loads. One static game, if your entire squad gets wiped out, tough. Supposed to be nigh-impossible to beat.

I think iron-man is an option you can do for any difficulty. Hardest difficulty is Impossible, which you can play on iron-man.

Even if higher difficulty levels end up having the exact same research times, progression, average number of missions, the games will still take longer because you will be more calculating with your moves in missions. Also, there will probably be more missions since you'll have failures here and there.

Edit: Also, apparently there is a marathon mode. http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Info_(EU2012)#Second_Wave

SWEET! I foresee many tens of hours with this game.

I played the original at least 20-30 times, and towards the end I had to invent new limitations to make it a challenge, so yeah I know the original quite well! I was quite sceptical about this release, but then tried the demo and looked at some gameplay video and I was hooked. I am not convinced yet that it will be as good as the original but I very much support this initiative so I prepurchased the game. I hope this signals to publishers that we want more games of this kind.

I got the game for 28 euro at GMG, and that includes the Civ V bonus too. I am not sure about the TF2 hats though, since all I can find is that GMG says that they cannot promise that we get those, which might be a salesman's way of saying "not a chance". Nevermind, I usually play TF2 one hour every three months these days...

What I liked about what I saw in the demo is first of all the updated graphics, effects, sounds, action cam etc. What a difference compared to the original! Also I really like that it is back to turn based, where the dual action mode replaces TUs. Instead the movement is conveniently displayed on the battle grid, so it has a simplified interface without loss of tactical consideration. Win-win! And doors, destructible environment and multiple floors are back on the menu again! 🙂

What I am not so happy about is the small map and small squad, and that it seems like you move from one side of the map to the other. If all missions are like that it can quickly become repetetive. Also research, strategy game play and story line is yet largely unknown, so that can be a hit or miss.

This is a pretty good video. In it Solomon mentions a single play-through is roughly 30 missions, give or take from player choices.

So are the missions pregenerated? With the original, you could literally keep on taking mission after mission for as long as you liked.

I too caved and pre-ordered. Amazon was offering a gift card if you did and since I am a HUGE Amazon purchaser, WIN.

I got suckered into pre-ordering Diablo 3 before it came out. I really hope I don't get burned like I did on that occasion. But the (pre)views and game play videos seem to suggest it will be good.
