Not seen any other threads about this game at all. Its really really good, i was really surprised when i sat down and gave it a second chance, i tried it before and the tutorial bored me so i just gave up. But the actual campaigns which i just shot straight into the second try were awsome. I cant say i liked the campaigns in AOE II, they were repetitive and boring, like starcrafts, i cheated my way through them just to finish the storyline, the saving grace of it was the gameplay. But AOEIII's campaign actually kept me playing, it was like a C&C game, variety in the missions and the objectives with a storyline to boot.
I was hoping for some civil war action or independance day stuff (a large part of the campaign is set in "the new world" america) but the brittish did feature in the campaign so it was all good, got to use redcoats 🙂
The graphics were also really great, on a 9800 PRO they kinda sucked, but with my X1900XT they were fantastic, the game ran pretty well too maxed out, at 1024x1024, which is all my monitor can do, the game didnt lag at all, which is good for a strategy game as lag can really ruin it.
Overall i thought this was a fantastic strategy game, the best in the AOE series (didnt play 1, i was told its like 2) Ive still to try multiplayer, but i imagine itll be good, probably not starcraft good but it definately should rival AOEII's online play which was pretty sweet, the scenario editor really contributing to that. AOEIII also features a scenario editor so its likely there will be defence games and madness games already present, depending on how good the editor is, havent tried it either. Anyways i give this game 10/10. Worth my money, amused me, good stuff!
PS, if you buy AOEIII and decide to play the campaign, you might wanna play it on medium/hard, medium definately if your familiar with strat games especially the AOE series, since easy was a complete pushover. In one of the defence maps the mexicans attacked once at the start and for the 15 minutes i had to defend they never returned :Q Easy is TOO easy.
