😕

yeah, you get paid twice monthly instead of bi-weekly. a friend of mine also get paid like this, only it's on the 10th and the 25th.

I get paid every second Friday, October will be a 3 check month as well, but really makes no difference. My sister used to get paid on biweekly Thursday (day before me) but with the merger is now twice a month 15th & 30th I believe. She complained to me about it.

doesn't that make it incredibly hard to accurately budget?

No, you budget everything based on two paychecks a month, and twice a year you get an extra check to buy toys with 🙂

Yep. I'll get an extra one just in time for christmas.

I don't count mine by month. Instead I base it on when my house payment is due. Normal months, I get one check that goes to house payment and one that goes normal bills, etc. Twice a year, I'll get two paychecks in a row that don't have to go towards the house payment. That's what I consider my "extra" check.

Ok...I give up...why is it significant?

ditto here

if u total those 3 checks, dont they add to be the same amount!?!?!?
No.

Let me explain.
If you are paid bi-weekly, you get 26 paychecks per year. Each one is 1/26th of your total annual salary.
Since there are only 12 months in the year, you will get 2 paychecks each month except that twice a year, because of the way the dates fall, you will get 3 paychecks in the same month.
Like I said, the way I figure an "extra" check is based on when my house payment is due. Because there are more than 4 weeks in a month, each month the date of each paycheck is a day or two earlier.
For instance, this month I was paid on the 9th and the 23rd, next month I will be paid on the 7th and the 21st. My house payment is due on the 15th. Because I get paid earlier and earlier each month, eventually I will get two paychecks (1st and 15th) before my house payment is due instead of 1.

So here is what my paychecks are used for:

House
Other bills
House
Other bills
House
Other bills
House
Other bills
Other bills * "Extra" paycheck because the bills are already paid and the house payment isn't due until my next check.
House
Other bills
House
Other bills

Woo-hoo! Next month is a 3 check pay period. Actually, it is for my wife. I'm always the 15th and 1 day before the last business day of the month.

I still dont get why you get more money if u get paid 3 times a month as opposed to 2

if u get paid 3 times, then each paycheck will have LESS work days compared to if u get paid 2 times, right?

I get paid everything 15th and the last day of the month. This is the worst deal. I miss getting paid once a week, cuz once in while, I'd get paid 5times in a month.

I like it, it makes budgeting on a monthly basis more predictable.

you don't get more money per say

it is just most people budget their bills accordingly to 2 checks (4 weeks a month)
since you will always get paid 2x a month

those extra days here and there add up (since every month beside feb has more than 28 days)

and basically you are getting seemingly free money because thos 3 pay day months you have an extra check which you have to spend because you expect only 2 checks but get 3

and an added bonus is if you have to pay health insurance they calculate your payments according to 2 pay periods per month so when the 3rd comes you don't have to pay any insurance on it since you will have already have paid for the month

you don't get more money overall.
Each paycheck you get for the entire year is for two weeks.

Take two people who get paid the exact same annual salary.
The person who gets paid twice a month would get a slightly larger paycheck each time because they get 1/24th of their annual pay with each check.
The person who gets paid every two weeks would get a slightly smaller paycheck each time because they get 1/26th of their annual pay with each check.

But the person getting paid every two weeks is likely to budget their expenses based on two paychecks per month because most months, that is what they get. But because of the way the dates fall, there will be two times each year when they get and "extra" check.
