I might get it this week sometime, or maybe just wait until Xmas.
The people who ARE playing it are kinda busy right now.

Steam is the biggest peice of sh!t software on this earth. It just won't work. And worst of all i can't return the game ... therefore HL2 and valve suck !
I can't even register as a new user ... I payed $100 CAN for this game and I have to pass through this peice of trash they call steam in order to play... meh

Arg! I am tempted to drive to Gamestop and pick up a collectors edition! I want HL:S, but I don't want to buy it from Steam!

Dumb noob question: If I wait and buy HL2 used from someone, will Steam let me activate single player even though the key was first activated on their Steam account?

<-- Not playing because hates buying things on release day.

edit: Checked the faqs at Steam and I guess they really stick it to you. If Steam-like distribution is the way of the future, then I'm going to be gaming less and less. :(

Not me.... I lack the money for the game. And if it won't run very well on my Athlon 2500+, 768MB RAM, Geforce 4 MX, I'll need to dish out more for a good video card. I can play Doom 3 at 800x600, it's kind of slow but I hear Half-Life 2 works decently with older hardware.

I'll probably buy it with Christmas and birthday money which are close.

If so, I'll ask for it for xmas.
If not, I'll ask for a Radeon 9600 or similar card instead.

depends on:

what you define to be "playable"
your CPU
RAM

XP 1700+
512 PC2100
KT266A

1024x768 (maybe even 800x600) w/ > 30 fps minimum(not avg.)

It's above the required specs, but we all know what that really means.
I've wanted to upgrade for a while, but all the games I've wanted to play in the past 2 years (MOH, CoD, NOLF2, James Bond:Nightfire, Mafia, Max Payne, BF 1942) have run just fine, so I couldn't really justify spending the money. BF Vietnam could have used a faster system, but since the game wasnt' that good anyway, I didn't bother.

you're not alone...

XP 1700+, stock HS
768mb of PC2100
KT333
gForce3 Ti500

eh i'd rather not start playing that game. the last time i upgraded was b/c of CS...
