I got two done in my cartilage and theyve both got a lump and are itchy, i just noticed this like 10 minutes ago heh. Not sore or anything just an itchy lump practically on the hole bit. I think since ive scrathed the hell outta it ma ears swollen up n got bigger, it feels thicker, dosent look it though. Should i leave it for a day or two before i start putting somthing on it? like antibiotics?

You could be allergic to the metal - an infection will usually be sore & feel a bit warm.

Is there any goop coming out of it? If it's clear, it's probably an allergic reaction. If it's white/yellow/green, it's an infection.

Did they give you some kind of antibiotic to put on it when you got it pierced? If so, put a lot of it all around the piercing. I'd wait a day or two then to see if it clears up, and if it doesn't, I'd go see a doctor.

The first time I got my ears pierced, one of my ears got really infected (I wore a different pair of earrings for a wedding, and my ears didn't agree with them), and I ended up with a huge blood blister behind my ear. It really sucked.

I've got my ears pierced again, and one of them keeps giving me trouble, I think because it was done over the scar tissue of the other hole that got infected... the antiseptic stuff, and wearing my original studs really helps.

when i got the cartilage in my ear pierced, it got infected. i couldnt get the infection to go away until i stopped cleaning it. turns out, the cleaning solution was irritating the piercing.

It seems to be the good kind of infection, its just swollen up real big. No goop, dosent hurt any more than usual when i poke it, its stopped itching but my ears still big. There was only cold stuff put on to numb the pain, no antibiotic and i havent put some on yet. I was gonna pour some salt over my ear but ive been told thats a bad idea so yea, ill leave it for a while and see.

The two cartilage ones have been in for 3 weeks, titanium rings, so i dont think its an allergy and i have 1 other ring which is also titanium, had it for a year.

I never clean it. Ill give it a wash when i shower but no salt water or antibiotics or anything. Spose this was just waiting to happen....

When I had my tragus pierced, it formed a keloid (I'm asian). I treated it with an aspirin paste (1 tablet + H2O enough to make paste) and let it sit on the scar as I slept and during the day I put tea tree oil to dry it out. My keloid went away completely within 3 days, no visual signs of scar tissue.

I bet if you clean it with some kind of antiseptic (don't take the earrings out-- just use some cotton and clean around it and squeeze some out of the cotton onto your ear) and wait a few days, it'll be fine.

oh avoid rubbing alcohol or peroxide because it will try the tissue out and cause scarring

I've had a pretty badly infected piercing before. In my case it was an allergic reaction to the plugs, and cleared right up after I got new ones.

Are you using surgical grade stainless jewelry?

Soak it in salt water twice a day (if I remember right, use 1/4 teaspoon in 1 cup warm water). Soak it for about a minute, then clean with antibacterial soap & rinse well.

I woke up this morning and wow! my ear was small again! Amazing. I got antiseptic and stuff on standby in case it decides to get big again.
