I'm on an Amon Amarth marathon. Listening to Fate of Norns, followed by With Oden on our Side. And to top it all off, the critically acclaimed Twilight of the Thunder God.

Cool, I'm seeing them in April ^_^

I'm not a big fan of Fate of Norns though, thats their worst album IMO

I might be in the running...I just made a special trip to Walgreens because I saw a commercial for this

Troubleshooting a logic array, splicing wires for a sensor cluster, building an i7 920 system for a friend and performing random searches for micro code on Google.

i'm jamming on my flute, listening to chopin, studying for the hormonal basis of sexual appetite, and analyizing a cognition paper for my lab

edit: o ya.. all by myself too D=

So 'Harcadio... i see you've given up on the "i'm gonna find a girl" quest you were on a few months ago.

Good for you. Know your limitations.

Drinking Captain Morgan and Icehouse, and playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2, by myself.

Yeah. Fuck women. Watching the stars doesn't cost money.

Or it could be the Redbull talking.

The fancy machinery is fun though. 🙂

They bought a SCARA robot recently at a liquidation auction, though they weren't sure what to do with it. The owner just thinks robots are cool, and it was dirt-cheap. It's fun to play with, and insanely powerful for something so small. But, well, I just don't know what to put it to work doing. It could probably function as an SMD pick'n'place robot, but since its software wasn't meant for that, I don't know how easily it could be flexed to take on such a role.

I just googled that and found this

what is considered "dirt cheap" on one of those? i know some people that have got some amazing deals on high end industrial equipment @ about 90% off if not more - just need to be in the right place at the right time

I installed a couple 4 port serial cards.. so I'm sorting out which of the 11 ports i have is which. rofl.

This one new card has shitty drivers though, only +/-5V instead of +/-12V... seems to transmit garbage at anything faster than 9600, over a 12' run. argh.

the other is RS-422, so it's good for miles.. but the octopus cable is missing.. so I need to make a sort of breakout box... DC37 to 4x RJ45.

I don't know the exact price, but usually <$400 is what they'll pay for any one item at these auctions.

I also don't think this thing can go quite as fast as that Adept Cobra robot, though there are some acceleration adjustments that I haven't played with yet. It's bolted to a pallet right now just to make sure that it even was in working condition. The pallet is in lieu of the 1.5" thick aluminum plate, or 0.5" steel plate that the instructions recommend. So as you may have guessed, this robot project wasn't exactly high on anyone's priorities as far as spending went, so I keep it at pretty low speeds.

Watching farther in the video....I think that Cobra definitely wins the speed competition by a long shot. That thing's got to have some very powerful motors in there. Quite impressive.
