Who's going to Comic-Con (SD)?

So, I have that Friday taken off this year and I still don't even know if I'm going for sure. This'll be my first time going to Comic-Con and my friend and I had no idea how bad the housing situation would be. Hotels are all "sold out" online and apartment/condo rental pricing is through the roof, which makes sense.

Comic-Con gets blocks of rooms which it then sells to attendees, even though it won't meet overall demand. This occurs tomorrow at 12PM EST and if I can't get a reasonable hotel room that's within 8 blocks of the convention center, I don't know if I'm going.

Anybody done this before and already have everything set? Maybe you live in the area and don't have to worry 😛

Take me with you?

Seriously my wife and I both keep saying we're going to go one year...

How about couch surfing?

I would consider it if it was just me going...but then I'd be going to Comic-Con alone 😛

Although I had an amazing weekend 2 weeks ago in SD...I have a bed to stay in if it's just me. :Q

I've also always said I'd go and of course I pick a year where there's going to be relatively "little" to go for, in terms of movies/TV. Still always plenty of Star Wars stuff to see.

I don't suppose anyone lives in downtown SD and could be persuaded to take a weekend vacation for $400 😛 (Yeah, the hotel thing has me worried)

Tickets are sold out already =/ SIGH. I'm still trying to get it though.

? The 4-day tickets, yeah. The day to day tickets are still plentiful - but won't be after people start booking their hotel rooms tomorrow. I'll probably know by Friday whether or not I'll be attending.

My friend'll be living in the Bay Area by then, so both of us will be relatively close. I have a place to stay if I really want to go, but I don't think she'd enjoy getting dragged along. hmph.

shush!!!! omg.. I can't let anymore people know! Gahh. I don't want to pay that much more for day-to-day tickets, but it looks like it'll have to do 😛. This will be my 7th straight Comic-Con. I can't wait!

You don't say...I guess I'll be pestering you with questions 🙂

I think I'm going to go this year. I'll aim for one of the weekend days. Live in San Diego now but moving away towards carlsbad or further north in april 🙁

Will just have to park and crash at a friends house and hopefully take public transit in (despite the omg coaster costs how much?)

No such thing! Although, I never went when I was in Michigan...Phoenix is much easier. The $39/each way Southwest tickets don't hurt either. 😀

Spent an hour with the damn hotel system this morning but we finally got a room at the Sofia Hotel. Anybody deal with that headache today?

Also, for anyone that's gone before - what's the security policy on bringing backpacks and bags in? It's a bunch of geeks with laptops and DS's, so I doubt I'll have a problem with bring a Camelbak pack in.

Man, I'm glad I live in SD 😛.
As for bringing backpacks and bags in, they haven't searched my bags in awhile now. I remember when getting tickets at the convention center, they'd do bag checks (I believe this was closer to 9/11 days).

Well, last three years, I got Industry passes, so that may have something to do with it?

What's a round trip from Carlsbad cost these days? I haven't ridden the Coaster in years. Either way, it sure beats driving to downtown and paying for parking.

Well, we'll have a hotel room (yet to see how small/large it is), but I'd be down for having some people over for some drinks or meeting up at a bar. We're going to be at the Sofia, on Broadway and 1st Ave, I think.
