Whos getting Ivy Bridge?

I will get it, mainly because I already have a mobo for it. If it won't offer at least 20% performance increase over my current 2500K (by better IPC and higher overclock), I will probably just wait until the first round of price cuts though, so maybe in Q4 2012 / Q1 2013. It will be a smooth road to Haswell. 🙂

I probably will, depending on the price. If the ivy bridge equivalent of the 2500k (3500k?) is around 200, I don't see why I wouldn't.

I'll do a drop-in upgrade. Might even break down and get a MacBook Air with the Ivy variant.

Price cuts?

When was the last time Intel had price cuts on a CPU people in these forums would buy? Q6600?

Usually they stay the same price and just go EoL.

maybe $5 cheaper than it was a year ago? Then it was probably called the 750, but 750 never got cheaper, it just got called a 760 and replaced at the same price.

Probably, depends on how it turns out. My arrandale laptop is getting a little long in the tooth. I'll be watching for Trinity as well, but IB+28nm gpu is looking to be my replacement.

To hold over my urge to get a 2500K I took my mild overclock on my i7 920 from 3.8Ghz to 4Ghz, then to 4.21Ghz It's doin fine. I think the only thing holding it back is the memory. I'll be happy with it for a while. I've forgotten about the 2500K upgrade consideration.

Apparently the Sandybridge E series doesn't offer much more over the first iteration AFAIK and I don't plan on using a platform that will cost over 300-350$ next time. I went all out on Rig2 and I think that got me the experience I was looking for.
