But how do we know how good Haswell is going to be? I can't say I am getting one because I don't have any clue how its going to be priced, how it will perform. For all we know it could be a huge flop, right?

The next Intel processor line following Ivy Bridge. Among other improvements, it's supposed to do away with requiring a motherboard southbridge.

I'll get it assuming I don't get IB.

I read that without the southbridge

So im sitting here like BS, it still needs a motherboard, then i re-read and realized im an idiot :D

Ill get haswell if it works on socket 2011.I will buy a one time monster setup and use that for the next 5-6 years.

an 8 core quad channel socket 2011 setup will last a while before anything can take advantage of it.

I don't expect that Intel is going to do anything radically different like AMD did with the Bulldozer architecture. It might underwhelm if it doesn't continue to increase performance improvements inline with previous Intel microarchitectures, but I somehow doubt that it will be a huge flop.

Well, six years later, we'll be at 64-128 cores octo-channel, most likely heterogeneous in nature. x86 will cease to be a necessity as well.

If it does come without a southbridge then it will likely need a new socket...

I am looking to get myself a new laptop next year. I have been carrying an old toshiba 14" with a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8400 that I am going to replace. With something thinner and lighter with a better battery life.

I won't, I'm getting IB

My rig is fine, has been fine for 4 years and will continue to be adaquete for my DAW workstation and 1080p 8x AA 16xAF high detaily multisample, vsync on triple on

I get 60fps capped no matter what I do where I go in any game,, including Crysis 2 and MASS EFFECT 2.

Also games take up about 60 percent of CPU power,, soo there is 40 percent not even being used. Guys wanna keep upgrading. Only difference is video rendering will be faster,, but IM a audio guy and gamer,, soo that doesnt apply to me. My dads 2600k 3.8Ghz SSD 6GBS renders fast,,, but I could care less about a 1 minute difference or soo. My friend renders with Premiere with his loley Q8300 2.8Ghz ,, locked BIOS lol. He has a 9800 GT and is happy. Sonar X1c x64 with plethora of synths and plugins and NI stuff. Runs at 25 percent CPU load on a average project I do.

Getting the 24/192khz to render takes less then the songs time. Soo ya most people are throwing their money, instead of being productive behind their Rig, they just wanna get the latest and run benchmarks 24/7 ...gl

again, with a Microcenter less than 5 minutes away I'm pretty much guaranteed to be getting new hardware as soon as they offer it

however we really don't know enough about Haswell right now though for me to be sure it will be better out of the gate than a higher end IvyBridge E setup which I'll definitely have. With Intel moving towards a release system where they cater to the mainstream first, its entirely possible that IB-E might destroy the first Haswell units until we can get some enthusiast Haswell parts out, particularly seeing as how Haswell won't enjoy a process advantage like Gulftown or SandyBridge.

Sorry, can we see pictures of this? I am calling you out on this unless you have proof....

If you look at the AT bench, the 560 Ti gets around 43fps with a i7 920 @ 3.33 on Crysis 1: Warhead on 1920,1200., which is as fast or faster than your C2Q. Thats with 4AA, not even 8AA!!

I don't like calling people out, but this statement is pretty obvious a lie.

tweakboy runs his stuff on very dark PCBs so it's much faster. Gg and gl!

I will be getting a Haswell because I am not getting IB. I might as well as wait out until Broadwell if my 4ghz Core i7 960 will still pull some meat by that time.
