I had befriended the daughter of the president of my company. One might think such an action was stupid at best, but I felt no harm in holding a relationship with the woman as friends. A few months past, and all of a sudden I'm expected to be at their family gatherings. Somehow, I went from friends to potential hubby without my knowledge. She was saying things to many (i.e. everyone in my office) people, but somehow I was left out of the loop. We never did anything that would even slightly suggest that we were more then friends...

We're no longer friends. I still have a good relationship w/ the president...

Meh. For your situation, I'd say go for it :D
