Whos ever built a comp from scratch and had it work first time??

Usually it works the first time. Sometimes I screw up the led headers though.

Same here. The only time it didn't boot up right away, the video card wasn't seated all the way.

i had a few go perfect over the years..
for the most part alot have had instant RMA parts..
just built a A64 Asus Nforce3 setup that was perfect for valkyrie was pretty happy it went perfect for her

My last build failed to power on. It was an issue with Seasonics and DFI boards though. Troubleshooted for 20 min before I figured out I can't plug a Panaflo medium into the board. Apparently it draws too much power? (even though its calculated wattage is well below what mobos can handle)

My first build ever powered on successfully. Installed OS in a flash.

The only problem I ever run into is connecting all the case LEDs (HDD, Power, ect). It seems no motherboard manufacturer uses the exact same layout. I have an Antec Sonata case I've had several different motherboards in it over the years and all of them require special rigging to get all the LEDs on the front of the case to work.

This machine I just built was almost perfect. But the WIFI is having problems and I think I may be seeing artifacting. I can't seem to play CO-OP Splinter Cell without dropping out in the middle of the session and my monitor turned off while drawing a large number of character models in WoW. Plus I've run into a ton of problems in regards to the X2 processor and how games perform using it. Argh... I thought this one was going to be perfect too.

Ditto. However after I finished up building my fileserver I had to remove the board from the case to install something else. When I mounted it again, it wouldn't turn on. I had to clear the CMOS before it would even turn on again. Weirdest thing I've ever seen.

If you want to save yourself a headache, don't wait until the entire system is built for initial boot test. All you need is a mobo+CPU+memory+video. If it boots successfully to BIOS, continue with the built. That way you're ~80% guaranteed successful built, plus if something goes wrong and you have to troubleshoot, you've already eliminated most of the key components.

Hardware, every time except my first build when I installed the WOL connector and could not figure out why it wouldn't power on. Software, that's more like 60/40, but I guess that happens when you have to use Windoze.

Heh, I pointed out that problem in a couple of General Hardware threads and had people saying I was wrong.

Mine usually work but I don't do anything extreme. Stock speed and usually the manufacturer HSF for CPUs.

i think its impossible for that to happen.

the most common problem i have is that i mess up the wires that hook up the motherboard to the case power/reset/leds.

I'm at 100% as far as the computer working right off the bat. Gettting all the drivers straightened out is another thing altogether though.

only problems ive had were reseating a vid card once, and i forget to flip the switch on the ps alot.
