Who's equipment is at fault here?

I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router which supplies internet to both my computer and my mom's laptop. Both mine and my mom's computers have no problems whatsoever connecting to my network. However, when my friend came over, he was unable to connect to my network with his laptop. He's using an Intel PRO wireless controller to get his internet. I turned off all security for testing puropses and even turned on SSID broadcasting so he could see my network. However, no matter what we did, it didn't work. He says that my network just sucks because he can connect to his home wireless network fine, but I say my network is fine. Any thoughts?
 
It really could be either of them. Have him download the latest drivers.

I've seen it be the AP or the client, or both.

-edit- and if my friend said my network sucks I'd probably throw him out the window and tell him never to come back. You don't come to my home and insult my stuff. that's just wrong.
 
If your mom's lappy connects wirelessly just fine, don't worry about it. Tell him to bring a long ethernet cable next time, or go suck eggs.
 
If youve got security enabled, and have no problems connecting, I would think it'd be something in his wireless connection, either the Intel software or maybe the Windows Wireless software conflicting with the Intel software.

Sucks for him then. I really don't give two sh1ts since both me and my mom can connect just fine.
 
So he can see your Network but can not connect?

On your side.

Could be MAC table On, DHCP has no more IP, and or other entries in the Router that you are Not aware of.

On his side.

Could be things like Static IP thay is off your system's range, Firewall blocking connections to strangers IPs, and similar issues.

My boss has learned to gently tell me that yet another customer has blamed their subpar coding skills on my network, I take it pretty personally. He has also learned to instantly reply that it's "not the network". That trust level took a few weeks of beating up customers who tried to blame the network (I can image 600 PC's in under 3 hours, don't think we are having too many b/w problems).


anyway, I would look for the latest intel stuff, and also check for Exclusions in the Intel s/w. I never seem to have any problems with my intels, they just work, all the time.
