Loved my SNES. Didn't like the N64 much but it had some cool games on.

I'll get a PSP as GT4m is going to be out on it and it has a MGS game.

I don't think it has an output to tv option 🙁 that would have been cool but I have a ps2 at home.

A friend of mine got one today with Super Mario 64 DS. He seems to have gotten over the controls learning curve. He's using the scheme with the touchpad + thumbstrab for movement.

So far he likes it, but I'd still need to try one before I took the plunge and bought one.

You realize that the PSP MGS game is a card game, right?

Went to get my preorder at EB Games, they had plenty left but were out of Super Mario. Decided not to buy it after playing with the demo. It's not that I don't like the DS, but I'm going to wait to see how well the PSP turns out.

i picked one up today..

i have to say, i'm surprised and a little disappointed.

- my top display seems to have two dead pixels. arg...

- madden 2005 ABSOLUTELY BLOWS.. the last madden i've owned is 2003 (for ps2), and i've played a bit of 2004/2005 at friends' places. This game does not do justice to the ea sports/madden franchise (even if you think this franchise sucks). I seriously thought i was playing one of those bad gba madden games. i mean, it's cool how you can select audibles by clicking on the screen and stuff, but i can't get beyond the "gba" graphics and the horrible AI.

- mario64 is good. from the few levels i've played (just the bombos world), it's pretty much identical to mario 64. In this one, you're yoshi though. So, remember how you have to race the koopa up the mountain? You have to get a "mario hat" on the level to change to mario and then race.

- the carts are pretty cool. They look like standard SD cards (like the one that goes into my ipaq [i think they're called sd cards]).

- only gba games play on it. I haven't had a chance to try the flash cart yet. maybe i'm smoking crack, but the sounds of the gba games on the ds sound more "stereo/bass supported" than on the gba.. Screen is also much crisper than my "afterburnered gba" or the gba sp (and much brighter [almost washed out at times]). It is kind of awkward though how only the top display shows anything.

- controller feels great. I initially though the buttons "give" too much but i'm already used to it.

suggestion: get it next year when games actually exist for this thing.

Are they actual SD cards? Does it have the exact same dimensions as a SD card? Can the DS game be read on your ipaq?

they are not SD cards, the DS game cartridge is similar to a CF card than a SD card. No the ds game cartridge is the same dimensions as a sd card.

Okie dokie. Thanks.

I seemed odd that Nintendo would use one of the standard memory card formats. If Nintendo had, imagine how easy it would be to copy the DS cartridges.

seems neat for kids i guess. only reason for most older people to play portable games is when they are so bored that they'll read the back of shampoo bottles(bathroom). and well cellphones fill that function...ds no fitty in pocket😛 we'll its already too filled..

don't know about the wireless connectivity but pictochat seems pretty cool.

they're not actual SD cards. The size is somewhere in between a CF card and an SD card.

re: 0roo0roo
so you know the first 10 ingredients of shampoo too? 😛
i have a train commute. sometimes i read a book, sometimes i sleep, sometimes i hide in the corner and play my gameboy.

I actually bought one today to auction off next month. I am hoping to get enough to get my money back and a Nintendo Gamboy SP.

im keeping mine, i debated whether or not i should open the box and ebay, but i dont think these are gonna be as ahrd to find. Ebay is running around 180-200 for the unit. I waltzed into a store in nyc and picked mine up.
I think all the preorder houses like eb and gamestop are hyping this shortage way too much. I think for most ppl the big boxes like worstbuy, target and cc are gonna have plenty. Some have them now and the supply is only gonna get better.

fwiw i think its a cool little thing.

Also my gba flash carts dont work, they physically dont fit. If you have newer ones based around a gba cart form factor, you should be fine. The 2 i have were based around a game boy color cart and they dont fit.

Looking forward to the psp as well, but cant wait for some of the nintendo exclusives to hit.

hopefully, i'll be getting mine tomorrow from cc 🙂 (theyre getting a shipment tomorrow)

unfortunately, tomorrow at school, i have a minimum day, so i have NO IDEA what the schedule is like (since cc opens at 10, on a regular day, i could just ask my world history teacher if i can go to the bathroom, quickly dial cc's #, ask for a hold, then scootch back into class) . . . hopefully, 10AM will not be when i am in ap biology . . . otherwise, i may have to wait 30 minutes to ask for a hold, and by then, they could be gone!

i wanted to get it from bb, because i have a rewards zone membership card (yeah, i know it was stupid to get it, but i still remember - the lady forgot to scan it for payment, but it still got activated; the alarm DID NOT sound when i left; i have so far racked up $25 in certs)
