EDIT 6/23/2012

So I'm updating this thread because my wife and I are thinking of going there for our anniversary in September.

Those of you who have been there, can you give me your opinions on it and where you stayed and what there was to do?

Thanks.

Stopped there on a cruise. Extremely poor nation that is very religious.

The belize zoo is different and interesting(Had a grown jaguar lick my head). Can't help you out with any other info really.

ive been. stayed on ambergris caye, which is a popular tourist destination. little island off the coast.

getting to the island we took a boat, crammed with locals and food. going back we took a tiny plane.

most people get around on the island by bike, golf cart, or boat. its pretty small, though i think there has been a lot of development since we went.

belize has 2nd longest barrier reef, so some great diving out there (first place i did ocean diving). it also makes teh beaches less beachy, no surf. lots of sea grass. swimming areas are usually just places they wiped out the grass.

aside from diving did a couple trips back on teh mainland. one to visit the casino. another to do a jungle/mayan tour. pretty fun cruising around on an old schoolbus drinking rum punch. the mayan stuff was cool, not as impressive as the ruins near cancun (ex. chichen itza).

pretty laid back place, i enjoyed it. drank a ton of belikin. no real nightlife where we stayed, that i know of. days were mostly wake up, dive, lounge in hammock reading and drinking beer. repeat. ideal vacation.

can share pics if you are curious.

i would be interested in seeing some pics if you would like to share.

starting my new job on Monday and getting a nice signing bonus and will probably use it towards this vacation, but still not 100% set on Belize yet.

I live in Belize City now. Lived in Canada for 9 years as well.

I also own a beach/vacation home on the island of Ambergris Caye.

Feel free to PM me for the REAL low down instead of some of the BS some people said in this thread.

I will try my best to answer any questions you have.

I've been. My wife, some friends and father-in-law stayed on a catamaran for like 10 days. The water was nice, but the people and towns were a bit too 3rd world for my taste. Everyone was nice though. I would not go back if given a choice, there just was not much to do there but swim. The wild life in the water was pretty scarce, I think you have to go beyond the reef.

You should post up your thoughts! I'm interested too!

We're looking for a nice "out of the way" Caribbean destination - somewhere where we don't need to stay on a big fancy schmancy resort; somewhere with more secluded beaches and local areas, and less developed resorts. Good diving and snorkeling is a major plus.

Because he doesn't want to bother of some know-it-alls like this?...
lol

purbeasts vacation threads always get the basement-dwellers freaking out about the drug cartels. you should see the cancun thread. as with most topics on this forum, gotta be able to sort out the sane replies from the insane

Just stopped there on a Cruise a couple of years ago. Nice beach we went to, and the people seemed friendly. Didn't travel far inland though.

Thanks for understanding. I have had people on other forums making tons of senseless accusations to start a fight for their amusement. And people who been there for ONE day on a cruise ship and think they understand the whole Country and its history🙁

I rather go through pm's or emails to break things down with the GOOD and BAD. I will give background info as well.

I do not work for the tourist board (haha!) and I will not sugar coat anything🙂

Anyway, like I said anyone can pm me with questions and we can take it from there.

later guys.....
