Ironic isn't it? The people who get pulled over for this are the ones WITHOUT "illegal modifications" on the engine

True, except the exhaust mods should count somewhere in there. But the point is true, these guys say they want to cutback on street racers when the ricers aren't the ones racing, its moreso the v8's in CA. This is a bugdet crisis move, thats all.

Says the guy in Illinois.

From CA and still visits family and friends often.

I don't really have a problem with this, other than making sure common sense is used (though I'm not convinced it will always be used). I have no problem with enforcing noise ordinances and emissions standards.

Guess I should get to peeling the "turbo" stickers off the side of my van. Don't want them looking under the hood, I have NO idea how legitimate half the stuff I've done to it is.

what is an example of an illegal modification?

Removal of some of the EGR system, basicly anything that makes the car fail emissions. And lots of engine transplants are illegal.

Under Drag-Net, San Diego officers come to train other departments how to look out for what they believe to be tell-tale signs of illegal modification such as window tinting, large spoilers, extra gauges or racing stickers. Police say this gives them probable cause to stop and inspect a vehicle and its engine compartment.

So extra guages are illegal now? They will stop lowered vehicles? Why? Even stickers do not present a direct harm to the public. Kiss your rights goodbye.

This is just another instance showing that in todays society you don't own the things you purchase. Next it will be food, "Henceforth it will be a violation of state law to turn all fast food into a waste product. These waste products are know by common names such as, "sh!t, poo, dookie, etc" Then eveyone will be a criminal and it will just be inforced at will when the cops want to mess with someone.

I wish Atlanta would do this. Nothing more silly than seeing someone with a $500 Honda toting along a $700 exhaust and making 100dB of sound trying to get up to highway speeds. Of course, that article doesn't seem to make a big FYI in the area of 'modified' vs. 'legally modified'. So, what happens if and when a modified vehicle passes emissions? Do they get a PITA check from the CHIPS?

To me, this sounds like an excellent opportunity for some serious engineering in product development for the sake of legal modifications that do not compromise emissions and safety.

There was a thread a while back here to another forum post, where someone was ticketed for a stock Evo spoiler "obstructing rear vision". No idea if that actually stuck in court or not.

Edit: Oh yeah, and this is a load of bullsh!t. Probable cause because someone puts a damn sticker on their car? Just because someone's car looks ridiculous shouldn't open them up to being trampled like this.

You are looking at this from an idealistic viewpoint

That guy in the $500 Honda has no quam with hurting the enviroment.

To me, this sounds like an excellent opportunity for the CHP to increase their income
