Lucky. I got a $105 parking ticket because my bumper was hanging over a bus stop. Very petty but I digress...

Basically in California you can contest your ticket through the mail. They have a full template at ticketassassin which I used, just modified the speed I was going, the street names, etc..I mail it in and now I'm home free.

The main advantage you get by doing it through the mail is that if you were to fight it in the court the cop gets hundreds in overtime, but if you do it through mail he gets nothing, and would just do it on his own time. Apparently my cop was lazy :)

Wow, I wish it was that easy here.

You might want to check your state's vehicle codes for something like this:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d17/vc40902.htm

40902.   (a) (1) The court , pursuant to this section, shall, by rule, provide that the defendant may elect to have a trial by written declaration upon any alleged infraction, as charged by the citing officer, involving a violation of this code or any local ordinance adopted pursuant to this code, other than an infraction cited pursuant to Article 2 (commencing with Section 23152) of Chapter 12 of Division 11.

That's how it works up here in Canada... although without the mail in part. Every ticket i've gotten, i've just showed up to court, and because the cop wasn't there, it was dismissed... i'm 4/4 now in getting them dismissed.

yesterday's news reported that craig rommel or brommel, i forget his name--president of the toronto police association, was talking about the traffic division wanting to go on a work to rule campaign. some cops aren't protected by insurance if they get sued so to protest, they're gonna stop issuing tickets.

They get sued over issuing tickets?

If it were safe to do 55mph, the speed limit would have been 55mph, not 40. Believe it or not, there is a reason that they limit the speed on certain roads.

The reason: so they can issue more tickets and squeeze as much money out of their citizens. Sounds mighty fair to me.

Good job on taking on the system Syringer. Most people don't have the guts to do it themselves.

What kind of guts does it take to file some papers?

I wish I could express how much I laugh at people like you. That is like saying, "If abortions were bad, they wouldn't be legal."

Wow.. since he is going 55mph, he is unsafe. LOL. Dumbass. I could go 70mph in my Camaro down a winding road and still be safer than a Ford Explorer going 40mph down the same road. Who the hell says it isn't safe to go over the speed limit? Since when do the people that set the speed limit know what's a safe speed for all vehicles?

Seriosly, if you're sitting in an open-top Miata, IMO, you're not safe at any speed.

Speeding shouldn't be a crime. Wreckless driving should be the only crime. Speeding can never be the cause of an accident. It is only misjudgement, malfunction, or inattentiveness.

You suck. Smelly fish. Uninformed people like you are so frustrating. Never go out of your house. That way, you are safer. In fact, don't use anything electrical because it might cause a fire. Only drink water and eat bland food to maximize your lifetime. You exist only to exist and nothing else. Shame on you.

Ok, Mr Fallacy. Way to avoid the topic at hand and complain about something unrelated.

On most roads, that reason is revenue generation by means of issuing traffic tickets. If the actual reason was safety, then speed limits would have gone up as cars became safer dontcha think?
