Whoo, 5 days straight without a reboot!

And yeah that's my P83 running Win98! I've left it on for 5 days straight without a single reboot or shut down! Soon that will be 6 days Then 7 Then my computer might explode

My unix box has been going just over a year without a reboot. And i only turned it off then to replace the p166 with an almighty p200 and 32 meg of ram.

My Win98 system is less lucky usually

NT box has been running for a year as my Internet Gateway.

It went down once for an upgrade to NT 5.0 from 4.0, once to put on a service pack and once to OC the CPU to 200 Mhz. Gotta love NT!

I have a Linux box that is very stable as well.

I guess my P83 and EDO RAM are stable enough =)

I have my P75 running 24/7 with 40 megs of ram, it is slow as dirt, but its hangin in there with win 98.

We have a Novell server that went 400+ days without a reboot. The power went our during a storm and all the servers shutdown. I bet she coulda done 2+ years.

Ya ya, there's nothing amazing about Linux running for years without reboots!!

Windows running for long periods of time without ever rebooting, however, is something to see!

Hmm... people talk about how unstable win98 and win98se, or windows 95 for that matter, but I really don't have any problems. I will admit that my when I had my computer running win95 osr1 and later osr2 that it was nearly PERFECT stability. However, I haven't had a lockup or crash or anything where I needed a reboot for I don't know how long. It's been about 3 months after a format but even after 6 months, win98se still seems to run fine. I will also admit it slows down after several months of installing and uninstalling programs but overall it works fine. Am I doing something good to my computer to make it stable or is everyone elses like this?

No Eagle some peope just DON'T know how to manager a system well, and complain when it crashes all to hell.

At my work, our Compaq Proliant Servers run 24/7, Our PDC (Security User Managent Server [Primary Domain Controller]) has been running NT 4.0 since July of 1997 only going down for memory upgrades.

Any operating system can be stable if worked with properly - I have seen idiots crash the best Linux and NT servers, and I have seen the best NT and Linux servers and even 9x Machines runs for months and months - you just have to take care of them

I'd love to have Win2k run forever without rebooting, but updating video drivers and installing programs that require a reboot always craps in my Corn Flakes

It's a lot harder to make NT run stable that Linux, IMNSHO. There are too many little memory leaks in NT when you do anything, especially on the local filesystem. e.g. Try setting up NT to do big backup jobs, where terabytes of data pass through the local disk controllers. You'll see what I mean.

But yeah, as a router or something, or a foot rest, or doorstop, NT works acceptably well.

Linux and NT won't even install on my computer.

I back up 850 gig of data off my NT machines each day to tape. If your NT boxs are running unstable - it's becuase your not doing something right. Period.

A good system operator doesn't have too many stability problems on good hardware no matter what the OS. NT is a pretty mean animal though, I have used both Linux and NT and it would not suprise me if Linux gurus find NT harder to work with, becuase of Linux's simplistic control.

NFS4 required reboots don't count, it'd only the crashes and system hangs.

If your purposly reboot your server, what stability problem is there? You told the machine to do something and it did it without hesitation.

Well if that's the case, it's been up for about a few weeks without being turned off.
