It rocks!!

I've been a C&C fanatic since day one and RA2 has rekindled my love after the horrible C&C2.

btw, i heard something about the warez version and instant death (like dabuddha described) .. if that's true, just go buy it .. worth the money for sure.

yah if you download / copy or otherwise 'warez' yourself a copy of hte game, it will do that nasty lil thing where all your guys die instantly. Settlers 3 was one of the games to first implement that. It would tag you along long enough to the point where you would just say "screw it, im gonna go buy it"... however i have seen a file on teh net allready that counter acts westwoods anti piracy thing.

Only thing that i have heard about RA2 that really is dumb is their refusal to implement TCP/IP multiplayer support. Only IPX/SPX is supported. You CAN play over hte net, but only via westwoods middle man client program. Very annoying.

Every multiplayer game on the net should allow you to host your own servers that can stay up 24/7 for other people, like for quake/halflife etc...but for EVERY game.

Its a pain for lan parties. Cuz then you gotta have everyone install IPX/SPX so they can play over hte netwrok. More headaches for me :(

oh well.

i did buy it :)
i figured out the problem.
Apparently when i was installing it (took almost 20 minutes!) it had crashed at the end (the installer that is)
when i came back my machine had rebooted by itself and was back in windows so i had no idea.
i realized something was fubared when i tried to play a skirmish and all my units exploded after 10 seconds. so i uninstalled and reinstalled again and works fine now
sweet game but still has few bugs in it

Will have it later today. What's the scoop on this? Does it allow you to play over local networks or direct IP, or does it make you go through some crappy service like WON or something like that?

You can do lan games, and games over Kali. Though, its easier to do games of WOL(Westwood Online).

There is no direct IP game play allowed. Gotta go through a 3rd party program like Westwood Chat or whatever their client is or Kali as someone else explained here
