I've got a serious problem with whoever invented whole wheat pasta... this shit is nasty...

Last night, my gf calls and says "I'm at the grocery store, want me to make ravioli for dinner tonight?"

Of course, I'm like "HELL YES!" because I'm broke and I'll take whatever free meals I can get, and above all, ravioli is amazing...

Couple hours later she shows up with some Whole Foods organic spinach & ricotta filled whole wheat pasta... At first I was hopeful, I love whole wheat bread, so I figured it'd be alright.

Boy was I wrong...

I ate it, and am currently eating the leftovers for lunch... with much difficulty. The only thing getting me through this is that i know its "healthy" and I hate paying for lunch...

So yeah, friends don't let friends eat whole wheat pasta...

Agreed. Those companies just don't do it right. They throw in all this indigestible husk because some health-freaks are expecting their healthy food to taste like wood.

Get spinach pasta next time.

The brand makes a big difference. Also, you have to use a LOT of salt in the boiling water, then let it cook until it's a bit overdone. After it's drained, it will contract and firm up a bit.

It's not bad with veggie/marinara dishes, but not so good with cream/cheese based recipes.

You should try giving Dreamfields pasta a go. Tastes exactly (or better than) regular enriched wheat pasta but with all the health benefits (or better) of whole wheat. I've found Dreamfields at regular grocery stores too, not just health food stores.

It's not bad depending on how it is served. Ravioli it would probably suck. If it is served in a thick red-sauce it doesnt taste too bad. White is still better, but the difference isn't quite as noticeable when it is served in something with a strong flavor.

The way I usually make it is:

Tuna Red Sauce:
Tomatoe Sauce
Onions
Garlic
Mushrooms
Tuna soaked in olive oil
Lots of italian seasonings
Parmesian into sauce

Served with whole wheat pasta is quite delicious, and loaded with good carbs, fats, and protein.

Yes, whole wheat pasta sucks. When I was living at home my parents used to make it all the time and it was horrible. Regular pasta FTW... tastes better and it's cheaper.

 good to know. I haven't bothered trying any of that healthy food = eat wood chips business yet and I don't intend to.

I have been using that for a while and like it as well as regular pasta.

The whole wheat pasta made by Barilla is at most supermarkets. The angel hair stuff is awesome and I actually prefer it over regular angel hair.

Did she cook it long enough? Whole wheat pasta takes longer to cook than regular pasta...although, I will agree with you that it tastes like someone wrapped a turd in a noodle and cooked it.

I agree that Barilla whole-wheat pasta is the best I've had & is in fact decent, but I wouldn't go so far as to say its better then the regular stuff.
