Whole Wheat Bread = No Mold?

edro

Lifer
Why does it seem that everytime I get a loaf of whole wheat or whole wheat nut bread, it lasts multiple weeks past the sell by date?

Yet... when I get white bread, it grows mold a week or so after the sell by date.

Perhaps the whole wheat bread just camoflages the mold, and I am in fact eating mold.

Or, maybe the white bread has more refined sugars, so the mold eats it sooner.

All I know is that my whole wheat bread lasts damn near a month and I love it.

I've seen whole wheat bread get moldy. It takes about 2 weeks in a bread box, but it does happen.

Yes it molds but like you have noticed it just seems to take a lot longer than traditional white bread. I have noticed this also.

we had some hawiian sweet bread that was sitting in a drawer at work for like 4 mos.

it was not moldy when we threw it away.

I never noticed it molding faster than white bread, but then again, my parents and I never buy white bread.
