I agree with you but I guess my friend is saying that why not just list one instead of having three different universities in my network

Screw your mate, he's clearly just envious. Why wouldn't you list them? You want people to be able to find you, and part of that is listing all your schools.

A guy I know lists the prestigious College I went to on his Facebook page and I KNOW he never went there but I haven't said anything to him or to mutual acquaintances.

I do consider it pathetic, though.

Btw, I joined Facebook at the urging of more than one female friend (to see their art/pic/keep in kewl touch, etc.) but I consider it a loopy vagina fest and haven't logged on in months now.

I don't know about that, I mean like 95% of ATOT has a FB account. But probably only like 15% have actually had a girlfriend. Maybe the other 80% are stalking girls who don't wanna be their girlfriends? :)

just wondering.

actually I'm curious because I have three universities (somewhat prestigious univs) listed as my networks and I recently heard my friend saying that it looks like I'm showing off. The comment bothered me a little because maybe he's right and I don't want to appear that way. I went to a shitty undergrad so I wanted to aim higher and higher. Sounds immature to be asking this, I'm sure

IMO you sound like a loser who's too afraid to enter the real world.

If you went to those schools, I see no issue. Fuck your friend if he's jealous of your hard work.

This is a bit off topic but I was wondering what a Post-Bachelor's degree is. I thought the Master's was the Post-Bachelor's. Is there an intermediary I'm not aware of?
Anyone have an answer to this so I can help to pass judgement on whether listing 3 universities is "showing off"?

Oh, and the point of Facebook and other social networking sites is so the government can more easily keep track of you. You're all pawns in their master plan.

If you went to those schools, fine, list them.

But facebook is for staying connected with family, friends, and associates.

I use Facebook to stay connected, but a small share of my "friends" just use it to brag, gain attention, or seek reassurance.

Im sure you made friends at each school you attended. I would keep them all in there. It will help others find you if you both attended said school. Friends are retarded.

No, the whole point of facebook is to stay connected with people.

Exactly.

That being said, facebook mimics normal life...certain things you do on the network will come off to others as showing off. You may buy that luxury car in real life just because you enjoy driving a nice, luxurious car...but that doesn't matter to the many people who will look at you and think you are a prick. These same people will look at what you do on Facebook...and make similar conclusions.

That being said, there are clearly people who use facebook to show off in some form or the other...but those same people likely do it in real life.

less is more... I show off by having the least amount of friends and never put anything on my wall ;)

At least that's why I'd like to believe :p

Just sounds like one of those knee-jerk over exaggerated statements. Some people rather be dicks then try to look nice.

There is no point to Facebook. It's a good time waster. it's amazing seeing people spend hours on Facebook as life passes by them. Go for a walk! Go visit a friend/relative. Hold the door open for an older person. Facebook is destroying America maybe not by itself, but it is a contributing factor.

I also have digital cameras more and more. How many parents can not simply enjoy watching their children play a sport like T-ball? The joy is gone and it is replaced by documentation of data (taking pictures of the game instead of being wrapped into it).

My manifesto!

yeah, i don't know what i would do if i couldn't check the status of high school friends i haven't talked to in ten years, or get messages from my grandma.

anyone worth being 'connected' with does not require facebook.

Next to the item on your news feed there you will find a HIDE button... You should use it.

How about just not adding the person as a friend?

I think you're missing his point. He's just saying that he believes people put way too much stock in the necessity of social network sites like Facebook. He's not complaining about those status updates; he's saying his life would be quite the same with or without them.

Meh I think it's just like texting

People my age 18 - 27 text but once you get up above that age those people just don't get it

I'll admit I'm one of those people who "just don't get it." The only time I see a purpose to texting is when I need to communicate with someone but talking to them on the phone would be inconsiderate to those around me. Otherwise, talking is faster, cheaper, and far more personal.

Regardless, he was saying that grandma's status updates and the news feeds from those he's not seen in ten years are inconsequential. If Facebook is being used in place of the telephone, that's one thing. But my experience has been that it's mostly used to just ramble about the day and, in some cases, brag. I use it to organize parties, runs, trips to the lake, whatever, but if Facebook died tomorrow, we'd all be just fine. It doesn't solve any problems; it's primary purpose is a distraction.
