I believe in Spandex. I once had to lay down the bike at 35 miles per hour to avoid ending up under a truck (it had passed me on the left, then abruptly started turning into an alley right in front of me). My spandex biking shorts took a fair bit of damage, but there were no holes in them at all. I lost plenty of skin that day, but I didn't have to pick any dirt and gravel out of my wounds.

My wife is a chemist that tests the chemical properties of spandex to ensure quality. You should thank her, otherwise people might accidentally bust out of it. Then you would really be scarred for life.
